Celtic Player Shots Per 40 Minutes & True Shooting %

Post#1 » by Jammer » Sun Feb 10, 2008 6:20 am

Field Goal Attempts Per 40 Minutes identifies how quickly a player uses up shots.

True Shooting % is another advanced stat, that incorporates the additional value
of 3 point shots made, and MADE Free throws.

The Celtics True Shooting % for most players is extremely high, indicative of their 38-9 team record.

Player ****** FGA per 40 Minutes ** True Shooting %, Comments

Gabe Pruitt ******** 17.2 ************36.0 *** Holster it, Rookie.
Paul Pierce ******** 15.8 ************56.8 *** Captain Leads by Example.
Kevin Garnett ****** 15.6 *********** 60.3 *** Go to the Big Guy More.
Ray Allen ********** 15.4 *********** 56.2 *** Better than this Board expected.
Eddie House ******** 13.8 *********** 55.7 *** Amazing he gets off as many as he does.
Leon Powe ********* 13.4 *********** 63.6 *** Wow. Is he a player?
Rajon Rondo ******* 11.3 *********** 52.6 *** Still only 21.
Tony Allen ********* 11.0 *********** 54.5 *** Surprise, surprise. Good choices, T.
James Posey ******** 9.0 *********** 59.2 *** Shoots only when he is "ON."
Glen Davis ********** 9.0 *********** 61.5 *** Surprising for a rook.
Kendrick Perkins ***** 7.5 *********** 61.3 *** Chooses his shots wisely.
Brian Scalabrine ***** 7.5 *********** 44.7 *** Yuk. Eek!
Scot Pollard ********* 5.2 *********** 63.8 *** Highest TS% on team.

The high player numbers are even more impressive when you consider that only 5 players out of 13 on the team can create their own shot (Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, Rajon Rondo and Tony Allen).

Everyone else pretty much makes a living off the above 5, and the spread floor from the excellent 3 point shooting of Ray Allen, Eddie House, James Posey, Paul Pierce and (surprise) Tony Allen, who chooses his moments wisely.

League average TS% is 53.67 so anybody who is taking shots on this team is above average except for Rondo and his TS% has improved quite a bit lately. He was at 51.5% on January 5.

If they can cut down on the turnovers (17.1 per 100 possessions! 28th in the league) this is a top-4 offense.
