So if Shaq is in and we go small and put Bass at the 4 and Dirk at the 5 how is Phoenix going to counter? Bass can defensively muscle Amare around. Stop him? No but we have successfully beaten the Suns with Amare putting up spectacular #'s. Shaq isn't going to go to the perimeter to guard Dirk.

I think all anyone was really saying is you no longer have a perimeter defender that can adequately cover Dirk. So yes Amare maybe able to be more agressive on the offensive end but this move frees Dirk up just as much.

The Mavs have always been a team that could run with Phoenix and muck it up w/ the Spurs. Does the trade make the Suns better in the halfcourt? Yeah but at the cost of alot of their ability to run.

Your assuming that Shaq is going to guard Nowtzki. Amare is going to have the assigment in him if we play straight up, or maybe we'll play zone in the defensive part of the game and will make you guys a jump shooting team. Then who is going to guard Shaq when we are in the offensive side of the ball?? Nowitzki?? Bass?? If Nowtzki guards Shaq, then Dirks is either going to be in foul trouble or Shaq is going to go for 30 ppg. Then if Bass guards Shaq, then we'll do heavy doze of pick n roll with Amare or he'll post up Dirk and there's no way that Dirk can guard Amare one on one.

Yes you guys have some miss matches but we also have them in our favor. I'll I know that this playoffs are going to be great in my opinion. Good luck in the future unless you play my Suns..

I don't understand any of you. First, we are to small to win the title, now we aren't fast enough to play with anybody. We still have Nash, Amare, Bell, Barbosa, Diaw and Hill who can all run unless Marion took their ability to run with him to Miami. But the differance is now we have some toughness, a legit interior precense and somw swagger that for some reason we didn't posses this season. We are not asking Shaq to be the Shaq of old, what we are asking Shaq is to be effective. Even if Shaq is about 60-70% he is still better than more than 80% than any center in the NBA.

You quoted me, yet didn't seem to answer anything I questioned. I think you can run with Shaq on the team. We all know all you need is Nash and 1 or 2 other willing players and you have a great fast break. Shaq does help you in the halfcourt tremendously as well. I think Amare at the 4 is where he should have been (and started out being) all along. Forget him being a center, that's Dan Tony crap.

Dan Tony is my main thought. If he can get them to play defense well, then you have something to tout. I don't believe he is the coach for that type of team, and he himself has said basically as much through the years. If you don't preach defense, your players aren't going to play defense, simple as that.

Shaq adds a presence that used to be feared. I believe that is now a bit of a sham. I also think we have the best Shaq defender in the league in Dampier. So as I said before at the end of my post:

We don't fear each other, nothing new.

Shaquille "I foul at a crazy rate when I'm bothered to play defense" O'Neal
Amare "De-what?" Stoudemire
Grant "I'm going to be injured anyways" Hill
Raja "LOLZ I'm overrated" Bell
Steve "I try but I fail" Nash

really fear inspiring group defensively...

I meant scoring threat.

Amare is our best scoring threat.

Regardless of the SHaq trade, Suns are a tough matchup for everyone, including us.

Amare usually puts big numbers against us, likewise Dirk does the same.
It was hard to say who had the edge before the trade and even harder to speculate now that the Suns have a completely new look. Too many questions about Shaq and their new look before anyone can confidently make assertions about this and that.

I just hope the Suns play the Lakers one round in the playoffs, that would be a classic series.

Well, we play on TNT this coming Thursday. Shaq should be pumped up to play against the team that said "thanks, but no thanks" to him coming to Dallas for Howard+.

Yeah should be an interesting game. Everytime this season when we play on TNT, we lose, a cue to Barkley ripping us.

Sucks Harris will still be out. Eh well.
