Bucks team identity ?

Post#1 » by superemxguy » Sat Feb 9, 2008 11:20 pm

I know we got lots of young talent with Bogut , Yi, Mo, Redd..

Phoenix Suns have the run and gun offense.
Detroit have the slow pace defense style.

What is our team identity ?

What kind of team are we trying to build ?

Thats the problem.
The identity of the team is no identity.

The identity is a ball hogging, no defense playing, group of whiners...

Your are 100% correct.

If you wanna even try to have a ''winning indentity'' you have to first have players who are willing to commit to a certian style that plays to the team's strengths.

Which basically boils down to making a commitment to winning even if it means sacrificing your own game.

Our players with the exception of a couple are way to selfish and worried about their numbers much more so than winning to ever make that commitment.

Thats why the team doesnt have an indenity or at least doesnt have a winning identity and never will with the group of players they have.

Our identity is a roster perfect to play run-and-gun with a coach that wants to play slow pace defense style.

No we dont,in order to play run & gun effectively you need a PG who can consistiently push the ball and create offense and find guys when they're open.

We had that guy in Tj Ford but we traded him away.

Good teams that run not only need the point gaurd but many play off there defense and there ability to dominate the boards, this team does neither....the past couple years they ran at the expense of there defense...which means they are not going to win.

I think the TJ Ford Trade is a bad trade !! 80% Ford is tougher than 100% Charlie V.

Ford Build Tough Character

The Bucks team identity is now a miniature schnauzer; everyone knows that technically they are a dog, but nobody takes them seriously as one.

It isn't necessary to have a gimmick (by which I mean extreme) style at one end of the spectrum or another. Phoenix (until now) and Detroit were at the extremes of tempo and that's cool, but a lot of great teams are more flexible. San Antonio and Dallas don't really have a style that can be described in one or two words, unless it's just "opportunistic."

I feel the same as I did at the beginning of the season; we need to make a tough choice between winning now with Bogut and Redd, and building for the future with Bogut and Yi. It's not so much a style/team identity issue as it is a failure to commit to a time frame of winning.

If we want to be a good team right now, we can. Here's just one example:

We send: Mo, Yi, Gadz, Simmons, both our 08 picks
We get: Kidd, Battier, salary filler

Houston sends: Battier, salary filler, their 08 pick
Houston gets: Yi, Gadzuric, our 2nd rounder

NJ sends: Kidd
NJ gets: Mo, Simmons, our 1st rounder, Houston's pick

Kidd/Ivey
Redd/Bell
Battier/Mason
Villanueva/Ruffin
Bogut/Voskuhl

If you want to win some games over the next two years, that's how you do it. What's the holdup? The Harley and Peak deals are already signed. If you can't bare to trade Yi, then you've got to move in the other direction. Move Redd/Villanueva/etc for some guys who will be ready to really contribute to a big-man oriented game in 2-3 years time.
