2005 Spurs the worst championship team ever...

Post#1 » by Point forward » Sun Feb 10, 2008 2:00 pm

... from the charity stripe?

C - Nazr (about 65%)
PF - Duncan (sub 70%)
SF - Bowen (sub 60%)
SG - Manu (about 80%)
PG - Parker (sub 70%)
6M - Horry (about 70%)
7M - Rasho (about 50%)

Honestly, with the exception of Manu, this is comically bad. I recall several instances where Devin Brown closed out games. Has there ever been a championship winning team close to this ineptitude?

Shaq was AWFUL, but the Lakers at least had guys like Kobe, Fox, Rice or Fisher who could make their freebies. Heck, I may rather have Horace Grant at the line than TD.

BTW, this not a knock on the Spurs, but I found it pretty remarkable.

yeah that is pretty remarkable, can you find their playoff %'s? because with the spurs that's all that really matters.

That's pretty bad but their defense was too good.

Duncan 71.7 (205 FTA)
Manu 79.5 (185)
Parker 63.2 (87)
Horry 73.2 (41)
Nazr 63.8 (47)
Barry 81.0 (21)
Bowen 64.7 (17)
Udrih 85.7 (14)
G Robinson 88.2 (17)
Brown 57.1 (7)
Rasho (no FTA)
Massenburg 50.0 (2)

Duncan and Manu both improved and the rest of them didn't take that much more than 2 a game besides Parker.

2003 was the worst team
AJ:"I'm Western Conference," he said. "I'm Popovich. I'm for him, for Texas and for the Spurs."

What happened to Tim Duncan didn't he used to shoot like 75% in the early 2000s?

Duncan's only had two seasons over 71%; 99-00 and 01-02.

I just looked it up, and 2003 Spurs are almost as bad as 2005 Spurs.

D-Rob - 66%
TD - 67%
Bowen - 55%
Stephen Jackson - 80%
TP - 71%
Manu - 76%
Rose - 76%

Still, if making FTs is your worst problem, but post D, perimeter D, low post offense, perimeter offense, clutch shooting and mental toughness are your forte, I would gladly take that!
