Is Pierce "Rafter-Jersey" good?

Post#1 » by TheSheriff » Sun Feb 10, 2008 6:24 pm

If Pierce retired tomorrow, would he have accomplished enough to have his 34 raised to the rafters?

This all comes up because, as i watch the Celtics on ABC Van Gundy says, "Paul Pierce has not done enough to have his number retired... he is not jersey in the rafter good."

I usually like Van Gundy, but in this case he completely off base.

Pierce will have his Jersey retired!

but if he retired today? idk. kind of pointless since he is mid-career.

he is almost there though.

No player will ever wear 34 again. At least not without asking Pierce for permission first.

He's obviously getting his jersey retired.
He could retire after this season it wouldn't matter.

paul pierce: absolutely yes! and if we win banner 17, i fully expect to see numbers 5 and 20 hanging next to 34 as well.

jk.....I disagree he is already top 6 has played for the team like 10 years and has been the best player hear the vast majority of it, to use an analogy from a hated rival Pierce pre KG was like Don Mattingly, things didnt go quite as planned but he was the lone bright spot in a sad era and the good things that did happen were pretty much the result of his hard work. He has earned a place in the team HOF the real HOF he needs a title or two, but as far as the celts go, he has been one of the only reasons to watch them most of his career and to me even though he didnt win titles near the start of his career he has earned it he should be one of the teams top 5 all time scorers by seasons end.

Are Reggie Lewis' all-time numbers in a Celtics uniform better than Paul Pierce? I'm just asking... Because I would retire Pierce's jersey based on his all-time numbers in a Celtics uniform. And I believe Paul will retire as a Celtic. But, he'll have to accept a lesser salary to remain in Boston beyond his current deal. If not, he'll go the Robert Parrish way: Played for other franchises before having his number retired for Boston.

Yes, and Pierce will be the only Celtics number to be retired for a long time to come.

Jeff Van Gundy knows nothing of:

A. Good talent
B. The city of Boston
C. The Celtics' organization

Paul Pierce is a lock to have his number retired

Return to Boston Celtics
