Whats The Problem??

I decided to make this topic because I believe we have a chance to be an above 500% team. The Hawks have a good foundation of young talent, but they just can't click together as one. Some of the problems I have seen include coaching,lack of scorers of the bench,vocal leaders, and ownership. Woodson just is not a qualified coach at the nba level, he makes stupid decisions and often cannot think of anything better than giving it to joe in an iso situation. We lack scorers of the bench, T-lue can score but down the floor guess who gets scored on? We have no vocal leaders as much of are players are low key guys, and we need a guy who will rise up and give the team that boost of confidence on and off the court.
And Ownership and ASG is not commited to this team in my opinion and BK seems always afraid to go out and get a big name or a solid player off the bench to improve the team. Please post any other problems or concernes for the Hawks.

We can make the playoffs if Woodson would manage the players minutes better and I would like to see him lean on the bench more. If we're going to become a true playoff contender we need our bench players to be confident and feel they have a purpose on the team.

We need to make a couple minor trades, nothing too serious, as I don't expect Philly to let go of Andre Miller until next season. I'd love for us to add some size on the bench, I know I continue to say that, but we continue to get over matched at times and it's time to do something about it.

I am so frustated seeing last games that I don't have the force to talk about the problems (one more time), but I just want to add that there are some other teams following ATL being able to be above 50%.

Meanwhile, I am starting to think we could seriously miss it.

I agree, but I will say that it won't be easy. At the end of this month, we probably won't have much of a working margin because of the tough road trip that we will have undergone. With Washington's slide their will be about 8 teams competing for 3 spots. If the team plays up to its ability in some spots with some selective overachieving we should make the show for a brief visit.

My question is with the long road trip how long can we stay in the 7th position? The Nets and Bulls are perennial playoff teams and I truly belive that with their current rosters they can pass the Hawks. Im trying to be optimistic because I would love to see a packed philips arena for game 3 of the 1st round. BTW would it be packed because the last time we had 20,000 in Philips was the 03 allstar gam.e

I think we're easily a playoff team in the East. Which isn't saying really anything at all. Granted we can play as badly as we have the last two games, but I don't think we will. Barring any significant injurys we're a lock for at least the 8th seed IMO. This roster in this conference should be going for more though.

Last year's team if healthy would probably make the playoffs in the East this year...I think the goal should be the 6th seed and not to get swept by Boston or Detroit.

Eh, people have been saying that all season. For a while they were saying it about Miami too. The Nets are just as flawed as we are, if not moreso. At least we have a couple of performers in the frontcourt. The Bulls have been a mystery all year but don't expect them to "turn it on". Not saying that we are a lock, we still have a better shot than those two.

The concern is that we make it and sit back on our laurels, the teams below us will certainly make moves in the offseason. We need to SOMETHING at the deadline if we don't want to be a little four and out warmup in the playoffs. I'd like to see us put up a fight even if we know we'll lose.

I said it about Orlando last year, and I'm going to say it about our Hawks. I don't see any reason to stand up proud making the playoffs playing below .500 basketball. I just have no respect for any team that makes the playoffs playing below .500 basketball unless they fight and get past the first or second round.

It's going to take quite a run for us to get over .500 considering the upcoming schedule. We are likely to be 22-32 when we get back home on Feb 27th. Not trying to be a pessimist, that's just projecting off the likely Vegas lines.

Your right. It's going to be extremely difficult for us to finish above .500 especially if we continue to play like we have been.

Last year Orlando was the only playoff team that was under .500 and this year there could possible be two or three.

Obviously I'm going to support this team if we are below .500 and make the playoffs. It just leaves a bad taste in my mouth when teams make the playoffs and they're below .500.

We dont finish games well or finish teams off when we have a sizable lead. Whenever the game gets close Woody panics and calls for JJ 1 on 1 which usually results is turnovers or bricks.

I agree fully. I'm going to support the team regardless, but I would hate Woodson and Knight to be rewarded for slipping into the playoffs with a horrible record.

If they roll the dice on the current roster making no moves to shore up the team this season, I pray that it means they have a bold master plan in summer that is more than just resigning our own free agents. I have my own ideas, but I'm waiting until after the trade deadline so I have a baseline to work with.

You're right, if ATL ends in the 8 first spot with a losing record, it will mainly show the other are bad, unless it's a 41-43 kind of record...

OK, there's a lot of "last minutes" losses, and this team could have "easily" a better record, it's the feeling, but it's certainly more important than that. When it the same thing again and again... it starts to show a deep problem.

IMO, this team making the playoff with a 7 or 8 spot and a losing record is the worst thing, it will hide the problems and gives a feeling of improvement, but in reality, it won't be.
It would be good to see the playoff again, but if it's a first round exit, this management could use playoff as a positive thing to justify to not make any move this summer... hmmmmmm.

A lot of those injuries were late in the season. JJ and Chill both went down late.

Right, but if it continues like that, it means the record will be at the end around 5 more Wins, while, and I think I am not the only one, was hoping for 42-42 record without big injuries...
