Jason williams to the hawks??

Post#1 » by drewfogarty » Mon Feb 11, 2008 1:17 am

just a thought.

Jason williams is a decent pg that can hit the 3. the hawks could get him for expiring contracts and a 2nd rounder and might not even have to include childress. Miami was looking to get anything decent for him before his contract expires at the end of the season.

Hawks send
Lue
Wright,
Salim (a 3pt shooter)
2009 or 2010 2nd round pick

for

Jason Williams

Maybe Williams isn't enough of an upgrade in your opinion. the Hawks give up alot less here than in all the Miller trades (you keep childress) and probably get the kind of piece they need to move up 1 or two spots in the playoff ladder.

Lue and Salim should be enough for Miami. Lo Wright as a filler, but Atlanta doesn't need to move any current or future draft pick(s) for Jason Williams.

honestly- why would they give up a useful player for a future second round pick when they don't get any cap savings or anything else? Salim has absolutely no value. Maybe they would be interested in Shelden though.

if they don't trade him they get nothing. if they do, they get a 2nd round pick. the fact they don't encumber any salaries is I thought was important. with this trade Miami has an extra 2nd rounder and is in the same salary position if they didn't make the trade.

the other point was that Miami doesn't want to improve any more this year (W/L's). they want to be bad so their 1st round pick yields on of the few major talents that comes out of the draft this year.

you can buy second round picks for a few hundred thousand dollars in any draft. You would need to give the Heat a real reason to do the trade. Adding in a large sum of cash would be more incentive than a second round pick.

Little incentive for Miami to make such a deal. 1 large expiring contract is more useful than 3 smaller ones. We'd have to offer a sweetener (pick or cash), which in my opinion he isn't worth.

If it's really cost less than the other good PG, I am OK even with the injuries he got, but that's right we have to find a reason for MIA to take any deal.

I'd do it anytime. While J-Will is clearly not in the league's elite at pg, he's definitively an upgrade over any ours. I don't think the stats he's currently pulling are truly representatives of what he could do in ATL since he has to share the backcourt with D-Wade. Don't get me wrong, I think it's very possible that his best years are behind him, but I think an 11-2-5.5-1-1 3pt line could be expected if he was running next to JJ.

J Will is a bum. He's better than Lue and AJ, but would probably play as many games as Speedy did for us.

I disagree.....JWilliams can contribute now...

He has played in 36 games, and getting 31 mpg. He has played quite a bit. His assist/to ratio was something like 4.8/1.7.
Those are good numbers to me. I think he would have more options to improve those coming here.
Another point: he is playing for a new contract. Miami has 4 PGs now with Marcus Banks on board. Similar to our logjam, someone or 2 has to go to just allow each organization to believe in a PG.
You won't get JWill with Lue and Salim; You would with Childress or a combo that inclues Zaza or Shelden. They need big men, and we aren't exactly overflowing in that category. One injury, and Shelden is getting 15 mpg plus.

I don't know; the JWill inquiry would just make sense to me. You probably aren't going to get AMiller without Marvin & Chills. They will just want more than you are willing to give.

Hey, why isn't BK making any comments right now? Are you telling me he is happy with this roster and no #1 next year? That might benefit us for a change. No #1 for BK to gamble with.

absolutely not,

I saw him play in the Lakers game and he is really the cancer of the Miami Heat, I saw him shoot the ball several times when there were clearly 2 to 3 guys running the fast break, the right thing to do is pass it up, but instead he shot the ball on an important posession that could've kept Miami in the game. All he had to do was throw it up and Marion could've had an easy basket, but he shot it. If I was Riley I would've benched him for the rest of the game, so I would have to strongly be against a J. Will to the Hawks.

It means nothing to judge him on this season, the best thing the players of MIA has to do right now is playing the worst way they can do ;)
They are already tanking since some weeks and hope to finish as the worst team in the league...

A couple weeks ago I read that Jason would like to play for Orlando if Miami doesn't bring him back. Just another player to provide depth for a team within the southeast.

Return to Atlanta Hawks
