Denton: Dooling likes role, but will he return next season?

ORLANDO -- Deep down, Keyon Dooling wishes he was a starter in the NBA and wishes he had a bigger role than the one that affords him just 18 minutes and 8.3 points a game for the Orlando Magic.

But all Dooling has to do is think back to his four forgettable seasons with the cellar-dwelling Los Angeles Clippers and realize he

The irony of these stories...

First Redick, now Keyon.

I understand he's in a contract year but this has to be some showcasing...

Denton letting the world know what Keyon "has" and "can" do.

Out of all the expirings I would like to keep after this season Keyon tops that list.

If Mo Evans can be had for similiar deal 3 years / $10 Mill, I'd do that too.

There's some idiot on the Fl Today boards hoping that the Magic will resign both Dooling & Arroyo. He said have Arroyo playing behind Nelson & Dooling. I personally don't want to go into next season with that same set of guys manning the PG position. I don't have a big problem with resigning Dooling, he's the only defensive PG we have but I'd rather sign a real PG any day of the week.

I wouldn't mind resigning Mo Evans, let Hedo play the 2 position with Mo & JJ playing behind him. Move Rashard to SF, then sign a back up SF & PF.

All of the Magic guards are flawed.

The Magic will not be hard pressed to keep this unit as is.
Basketball is driven by three principles:

1) Movement 2) Application of fundamentals 3) Predictability

My bet is that JJ will be gone by the trade deadline. I also think the Magic will sign back Dooling and Evans. Then in the draft they will take a SG/SF, bring Fran over, and use the MLE to get another PG.

Nelson/(MLE)/Dooling
Hedo/Evans/(Draft)
Rashard/(Draft)/Hedo/Evans
Haslem/Cook/Fran/Augustine
Dwight/Barttie/Foyle

I think we resign Mo and Dooling, and let Arroyo walk (I think he'll end up in Miami, can you imagine his fanbase? even more so than in Orlando). Nelson I think will be back, but he might be on the bench if the Magic can find a pass first PG in FA or a trade.

I think the Magic want to re-sign Dooling. No guarantees that they will be able to keep him, though. I hope they can.

The only FA for sure I want to re-sign is Mo Evans. Arroyo can walk unless he wants to be a 3rd string pg making 3rd string money. Arroyo will have more fan base in Orlando than Miami. He would have more in Miami if he was Cuban. Dooling hasn't been pissing me off lately, as many of you know I am a Dooling hater. But we have to upgrade our roster. And retaining the same people is not going to complete that. And you have to factor where are you going to get all these people mins.

For PG..we have Jameer. And I know many of us want to upgrade that position. Jameer is here for the long-term whether you hate him or not he is. Me and Otis are his biggest fans. And if we are going after another PG to upgrade that position. We cannot keep Dooling.

For SG..I'm really liking Evans. And I hope to re-sign him in the off-season. The question with Evans is he starer quality? Mhector's sig would tell you yes. But wher he is going to start or come off the bench. I hope to keep him. Alot of people on here cry for Redick min's and we cannot keep Dooling and Bogans here if you want to see him get minutes. We have to cut the fat somewhere in our 2-guard rotation.

Trading Keyon is a bad idea.

he's a change up PG for us, Arroyo is the one that has to go, Bogans only has 1 more year left on his deal i'd rather seem them go first.

I think if you put McGee back then, he would get those blocks just as easily as Russell did. Russell's athleticism was well ahead of the players of his time, and that's about it.

As far as the expirings, I think Evans and Dooling are priority 1a and 1b. I like Evans more but as a guy who can play the 1 Dooling has extra value. I want no part of Arroyo or Garrity (obviously) after this season. Hopefully Bogans will become dissatisfied with erratic minutes off the bench and opt out (not likely IMO), which would open up playing time for JJ alongside Dooling off the bench.

I'm hoping we keep Evans and Dooling. As far as the other FAs go, I don't care. We could probably keep both for 3 year/10 million each IMO, last year being a player option.

Magic probably need a combo guard to go along with their two point guards. Someone always gets hurt, and you have to have a third that can play the spot at least some.

Show me the money!

If the Magic ink Dooling for a $ above the offers of other teams, he would dress up like Stuff for the half time show.

Here's the O-Sen story on Dooling. Pretty much same as Denton's..figures
