Trades with Sonics
there was evidently an article about possible interest from the Cavs in Wally Z. Have you heard anything? It sounded like Newble, Snow and your #1.

You always have to love that people show up when the Cavs play a bad game to take a shot at them (largely because of injury). Fact is before the injury bug hit the Cavs were the hottest team in basketball. So they really aren't as bad when full strength as people are trying to make them look. Do they need to make a move, yeah, but not just to make one. They need to make a move to improve the team. Wally doesn't really do that unless it's for the right piece.

I was just checking to see what the fans would think of the trade. Not trying to put your team down or anything. I know that you have a bunch of guys injured but it seemed like you could use another shooter even beofre injuries. Wally's contract is the same length as Snow's and he brings way more to the table. I was very anti-Wally when we got him but he has been much better than I thought he would be. When he gets his feet set you can pretty much count the bucket. He doesn't play much D but that isn't what you wold be getting him for. Spacing the floor for Lebron is where he would excel and he posts up much better that I thought. He really belongs on a playoff team and the Supes are giving him minutes that should be going to younger players who fit into our long term plans. I don't think a mid to late 1st is much to give up for a shooter of his caliber. I bet the Supes would add one of their PG if the money could be figured out. There is no way they would take back Larry though. Worst case is they let Wally expire after next season and then have a ton of cap space. As far as the cap goes, even if you let your expiring contracts expire won't you still be over the cap next year?

Wally was at his best when he was at the 3
like when he was with Garnett and Sprewell played the 2..
we have a 3 already
he doesn't match up well defensively with Rip Hamilton
and it would be ridiculous to pay 8 figures for another guy to stand around behind the 3 point line
we already have Jones, Marshall and a couple of others who won't go inside the arc

In defense of Wally (which by the way is a very foreign place for me) He does post up players as well. He'd immediately be our second best scorer and the leader of the reserves. But I agree he does play the same position as that other guy. I do however think that this team needs more shooting. If you left it up to me Marshall would never even be active for a game. So I consider that point moot. But the guy that I'd actually like to get more than Wally is JJ Redick. LeBron creates way too many wide open looks for them to be exploited as infrequently as they are with us.

just adding..
Ferry was on the radio the other day and was talking about potential trading..
he said he was extremely reluctant to part with his draft pick this year because we (the Cavs) didn't have one last year
he talked about how important he felt the draft process was
he didn't sound like he's giving up ANY picks any time soon

Nor should he. Sure the draft is a crapshoot to some teams, but others seem to consistently find productive players late in the first round. I think that the primary reason that the team has few trade assets now is because of our liberal trading of picks under the previous regime.

I fail to see what current problem you're blaming on the previous regime. We have our pick for the upcoming season. The previous regime isn't responsible for any contracts except Snow.
Ferry could have easily staggered the contract endings, providing some flexibility each year. Or better yet he could have made wiser decisions.
Paxson isn't responsible for much on this current team. It's pretty much all Ferry's doing.
I agree Paxson sucked. And it was probably the dumbest move EVER made to let Boozer walk. But exactly what is he at fault for here?
the only thing I can see is the second dumbest move of all time..
Paxson could have not traded our #1 to Boston for Welsch.. then we might have a player who was that #1.. but there's not telling how that would have played out.
then again.. maybe Paxson could have drafted better..
wait.. maybe you're right..
but Paxson is only partly responsible.. Ferry could have signed tradeable assets instead of garbage filler

You must not have read what I said then. Paxson traded several first rounders as well as bushels of second rounders and that is what I believe has put the team in a position where it doesn't have many tradeable assets. Whatever Ferry may have done he hasn't been one to trade lots of picks. The players from those draft picks should be the players that filled out our roster and they'd be people that'd be fodder to be traded.

Paxson set this franchise back years farther than you may realize here jnester. Boozergate alone set us back a good year or two. We should have more youth to go along with LeBron from past picks, instead we have nothing but the memory of Jiri, and Milt. Having those two picks back would have given us two solid young players to put around LeBron.
