Asked Sergio at the Bowling event and he said Rudy was excited about next year with the Blazers. Not putting any faith in it at all, just like any other article. When he signs a contract, either with the Blazers or someone else, is when I will believe.

Until he steps off his plane at PDX, nothing is certain.

Unlike so many on this board, I'm not so hyped up about
Rudy. I don't think he can play PG and I question how well
he and Roy will match up on the court both defensively
and offensively as starters. If we end up out of the playoffs
and in the late lottery, we might end up picking someone
like Collison who would bring us some needed quickness
and speed in our back court, so the need for Rudy might not
be so great, not worth paying huge amounts of money for.

The only thing we need next season for a rookie is Greg
Oden.

I think Oden will give the Blazers about 5-8 more wins.
Rudy would probably add another 2-4 wins. (Guessing!!)

Either way I believe the Blazers are better off with
Rudy then without Rudy. It gives us another scorer.

Rudy signed a contract extension with Joventut through 2011.
That contract supposedly will allow him to easily leave for the NBA if he so chooses.
From all indications he will be a Portland Trailblazer next season.

i bet that for basketball players outside the us their dream is to play in the nba.

i think that if he has the chance he will choose the nba.

I started this same thread on another site. I am pulling this new article, link and quote from it;

http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=t ... &type=lgns

"Right now I have a contract with DKV Joventut and I'm only thinking about that," Fernandez said on the Spanish league's web site.

Fernandez chose to stay with DKV and signed a new contract with the Catalan outfit last July through the 2010-11 season.

"There are always rumors about if I will be in the NBA," he said. "Now I wear this jersey, I have won the Copa del Rey and I have two more seasons remaining.

"Right now, I'm only thinking about this contract that I have."

Is this just a pro being a pro and not wanting to hurt his fan base by being positive to them by not telling them basically, "screw you, I am going to the NBA next season where I have always wanted to be?"

I just can't tell. Anyone else?

it would probably be 'instructive' to know the terms of his current contract in comparison to what he would make next season on a rookie scale NBA contract.

I think definitively saying he'll be a blazer is quite premature. It definitely seems like he will. but there's still a chance he'll choose to stay in europe. It's small, but possible.

I am in Spain and the sentiment here is that Rudy will play in Portland next year. I don't know why Givony wrote that but most people here believe he will be a Blazers.

In my opinion Rudy will play for the Blazers, first of all: he should have been picked in last the draft TOP 12 and everybody knows he is a big steal (in fact he is a much better prospect than Sergio, Belinelli, Critentton or Stuckey).

I think there's only one question in Rudy's head, Will give Mcmillan enough minutes to him?, I'm sure he will not sign for the Blazers if mcMillan plans to play him 10 minutes per game.

I think thats a good point, will Nate give him mins??
If Rudy sees his budy Sergio not playing he may
think he wont get many mins which might make
him think about not coming over. We already
know Nate has double standards and that
could come into play with Rudy coming.

Also if he sees Roy & Jack here he
may not want to come over. Im
sure he doesnt want to be the
3rd SG playing behind Jack.

I know if I were Rudy I
wouldnt want that.

Eh I don't think you got to worry about that. These guys, Rudy especially, are ultra competitive. Rudy has basically "conquered" the euro league having already won the final and been mvp etc. He believes he's one of the best and he's going to want to prove it on the NBA level. I wouldn't want a player that is already worrying about potential playing time. If he's not confident enough to think he can win the job then he's not ready to make the jump. Every indication is that he's very confident and very competitive. If he doesn't get a red carpet rolled out for him he's not going to pack it up and go home, he's going to prove he's the best player for the team.

Luckily, he's most likely level headed enough to understand that Sergio not playing has no bearing on him. He's proven more than Sergio has and seems to be light years ahead of him.

Also I'd be pretty surprised if Jack was around next season.

Stop worrying about IF Rudy is coming or not until season is over OR He makes a statement saying he has NO plans on going to the NBA. The quote he made is very good he put his commitments now ahead of what might happen. Truth be told if he would have said i am jumping and i am just killing time in Europe until i can play in the NBA or something like that. Then i might worry cause that would show he is more about himself and not the team.

Those statements he made have "politically correct answer" written all over them, I can't believe some people can't see through that. He is in no way suggesting he's not coming over next season, he's just deflecting the attention.

That's the sentiment among fans, not the sentiment among executives and agents.

Anyway, I'm also in Spain and I wouldn't know for sure. If it's only a money issue, he would have signed for F.C.Barcelona last summer for more money than he got in Joventut. His purpose was to be able to get out of the deal in order to play in Portland, and it remains as a very strong posibility. However, the fact that Roy is the franchise player, playing the very same position he does, and that Sergio is struggling to get any significant playing time, might have cooled him on the Blazers option.

Still, he was quoted last night saying that it would be good for him and for Spanish basketball if Badalona fans supported him once he leaves for the NBA, and that's something you woulnd't say if you weren't thinking about going there in the short term.

You can't compare Rudy with Sergio.
Sergio was nothing but a prospect when he signed for Portland. He didn't play well for the spanish national team last summer. He was just the third string PG, and I very doubt he will play again for the spanish team (Ricky Rubio is way better). On the other hand, Rudy is (and has always been) the star of one of the top teams in Spain. It would be more reasonable to compare Rudy with Juan Carlos Navarro. In this case, I think Fernandez has an advantage. He's younger and not undersized (unlike Navarro), and a much better defender. Las year both had similar stats in the spanish league.

There is an article published today in Marca about Rudy. This is the link (spanish) http://www.marca.com/edicion/marca/balo ... 88741.html .

It's basically some comments from Jason Filippi (Blazers scouter) about Rudy. This is one of the comments:

"We want him in our team next year, especially when he is playing at this level, but the final decision must be taken by the franchise's bosses in Portland. What there's no doubt is that he would like to play in Portland and he has made a lot of questions about the team and the city."
