I don't think anyone said they wanted to see it. My posts were more of a commentary on what is allowable to show on TV these days.
Another point: it wouldn't be very hard or restrictive to wear a small neck guard. I know hockey players are very macho about this with helmets (very few wear visors, none facemasks).

Yeah I dont exactly enjoy watching it either. Especially when ESPN feels the need to show it every half hour...its the only way hockey gets any national attention though when things like this happen.

I think the fact that an injury like this has only occurred twice in NHL history (which is unbelievable in itself) and the first time it has happened to a position player will be what most say about not having something protecting the neck. Goalies do have a plastic coverings now that hang off the bottom of the helmet and sort of cover the neck, but that's more for pucks flying at them, not skates. God forbid if the NHL sees more injuries like this then they may look to it, but unfortunately I doubt they will.
As for the visors, I'm surprised the NHL hasn't mandated this yet. It seems like every game someone gets hit in the face by a puck or a flailing stick. College hockey has a version of the facemask that is all clear plastic instead of the wire-style. I would like to see the NHL move to those, but there would be an uproar from the Player's Association since there would be adjustments to playing with them on.
It's amazing to me that arguably the most dangerous sport out there has had very little in terms of serious injuries. There's a broken leg here or there, but most of the time, the injuries are minor. But they shouldn't be waiting for more serious injuries to start coming up, and they should do things to prevent them now.
