I think we have all seen enough of Vince to know that 25 points from Vince does not neccessarily equate to a win. He can score 25 points and do more to harm the team than help them.

He was terrible in games 1 and 2 - which the Nets split - and he was terrible in Game 6 that the Nets won. Consider that in Games 1 and 6 combined - both Nets wins - he shot .289 from the floor.

If you want to know why we lost, look at Jason Kidd averaging a triple double for the series. Look at Richard Jefferson who shot over 45% in 5 of the 6 games.

In game 1 he didn't shoot the ball well but he made an impact to help the Nets win. In the 2nd quarter, it was Carter with the Nets second unit who were able to open up the game a little for the Nets when the bench matchup was suppose to favour the Raptors. And Jefferson played great for the first 3 quarters but he cooled off in the 4th going like 0-5 and scoring 1 point. Carter and Nachbar helped perserve the Nets lead in the 4th when the Raptors made a run to cut it to one late in the game but Carter found Nachbar for a corner 3 to extend the lead backup to 4 and then made several more plays down the stretch to secure the win. No late game comeback for the Raptors. :wavefinger:

Ah, games 3 and 4 turned out be great fun. Carter came out and destroyed the Raptors in the first quarter of games 3 and 4. He scored 13 points in the opening quarter of game 3 and the Nets had a 12 point lead which the Raptors were never able to recover from. He then followed that up with a 15 point outburst (with a couple of highlight alleyoop dunks thrown in) in the first quarter of game 4 and the Nets had an early 17 point lead. The Raptors were never able to recover from that and found themselves in a morale deflating 3-1 hole in the series. And he didn't play that well in game 6 but in game 5 he was good and it came down to him setting up Nachbar for a series ending 3 that missed.

So no, it wasn't that they won despite Vince. He DID have 2 great performances in games 3 and 4 where he scored 37 and 27 points IN BLOW OUT WINS and helped build a 3-1 series cushion for the Nets.

"Now, if Carter were to hold a news conference in Toronto and admit to past misdeeds and apologize for them"

He already admitted to having not always given his best effort in an interview with John Thompson three years ago. He didn't specifically say it was with the Raptors that he didn't always give his best effort, but that's how everyone interpreted it. Is that not admitting to his "misdeeds"?

And what would be the point of apologizing. What's done is done. And if everyone has really "moved on" like they claim, it's not needed anyways.

The Nets will probably finish 6th, so if we can get 3rd we would face them again. I would love to face them. A series against Atlanta or Washington does nothing in terms of excitement compared to a series against the Nets.

You are right about one thing, Calderon isn't an All Star this season, just like Vince Carter.

Vince Carter has been playing injured. Calderon is a role player. Bottom line.

Raptor fans are a whiny lot. Yes Carter left eons ago, yes he was clearly misquoted by Thompson, yes the Raptors would probably still lose to the Nets in a playoff series.

it's true that we have to respect any team we play against, but I really really REALLY want the raptors to humiliate the nets this season

If you think Calderon is a role player you clearly have not watched the last 25 or so games from Calderon this season. He's outstanding. Something cater used to be until he got his contract extension.

I expect boos, but nowhere near what we saw in the playoffs.

I hate to break it to you skippy, but the Raptors are not a exactly great team either...you are typical of the Toronto arrogance that almost always ends with humiliation because we lose to a "sucky" team....
The best revenge against Vince would be for the Raptors to become a great team....and for the crowd to not give a damn about him anymore.

The Calderon Kidd matchup looks more interesting. I'd like to boo Kidd because in my opinion, he's a bigger fraud now than Carter. A phoney all-star, a guy of dubious off-court behavior whose reputation the Nets salvaged, now getting huge dollars and whining to get out of town. He could have signed in SAS for a few fewer dollars, and he'd have that ring by now. But no, Kidd prefered to squeeze every last dinero out of the Nets.

Lump it, Jason.

By the way, if Vince's number was going to be retired, Garbo wouldn't be wearing it.

Forget it.

I agree 100% with this post.

We don't owe Vince Carter anything. We're not going to retire his jersey. He may have put us on the map, but he put the organization in a big rutt with his prissy demands, and not giving his all for a team paying his salary. Vince left on a sour note. Nobody in this city likes him other than his partner at the Inside (Travis) who sits courtside in VC Nets jerseys.
