Kapono and TJ

Post#1 » by stopnpop » Tue Feb 12, 2008 12:51 am

As a keen observer of the Toronto Raptors it is plain to see that Kapono is effectively utilized when he is on the floor with TJ. However, it has been illustrated that Kapono does not belong in the starting lineup. Smitch even affirmed the fact that Kapono does better with TJ than Jose during the post game scrum after the LAC game. Does this mean that TJ will be relegated to the bench for the remainder of the year so that he can be fresh along side Kapono? Personally I am not a Kapono fan, dude refuses to jack threes, but when he plays with TJ he does get more involved in the overall offense, he actually runs. I think that would make the 2nd unit Ford, Delfino, Kapono, and Rasho...thats a solid 9 man rotation, and thats a great 2nd unit with a pg that can create shots for others, and provide instant offense himself off the bench.

Refuse to shoot threes? Being a guard myself, I would love to jack up threes everytime, but Kapono has a target on his back, highest fg rating of 3s? come on man, if u were the other team you wouldn't even have him breathe.

i'd like the raps to try tj at 100% and kapono in the starting lineup over jose and moon...the way the lineup was projected to be at the beginning of the year (when bosh was struggling)
Jose "Hammy" Calderon - where Gatorade at the half clouding rational judgment happens, and where "hamstring" injuries linger all season long.

That may be true to an extent..but he still hesitates..he should be slinging a la dell curry..he is the best 3 man in the league..he needs to atleast attempt 3 3p a game..hes attempting 2 right now....and Kap isnt being guarded by the Bowens or Kobes of the league, he should be able to shoot 3 threes a game...he always looks for the absolute perfect three shot..and its good to have good shot selection, but dude wants practice threes out there..that inflates his %...still the deadliest 3man, he needs to act like it

This is so lame. GIve me a break! Look at the Kaponos stats with TJ. Two points more. LOL. The guy shot TWO THREES in last five games, while Moon can brick three anytime he likes. Opposing teams are not stupid.

Ya I was actually thinking about this. Calderon is the point guard who takes care of the ball better and is conservative which leads to a high assist to turnover ratio. Ford on the other hand is the aggressive minded point guard with insane quickness and can basically run around the paint at will. As explained earlier by other posters, Kapono chooses his shots extremely cautiously which leads to high fg%.

I noticed that putting in Calderon and Kapono who both are conservative players in the game, they wouldn't be able to produce a great amount of shots except for at fast break points where Kapono is trailing. Calderon's primarily a pick and roll point guard which doesn't exactly compliment Kapono. On the other hand, Ford and Kapono mix well together because Ford's strength is to penetrate and drive which makes things easier for Kapono to open up. Also Ford sometimes does extremely hard passes if he finds shooters on the perimeter open which may not necessarily be the best choice if the shooter is an average shooter but in the Raptors case, it is Kapono standing there and is worth the risk of getting a turnover.

Now one of the Raptors weaknesses is defense. This means that the Raptors would like to have more defensive minded players to start the game to set the defensive tone. Which basically means Kapono cannot be in the starting lineup (because he sucks on defense) which basically makes him the 7-8th man. Now previously I just explained that it is much better to put Kapono and Ford on the same unit which basically means the Raptors are much better off having Ford coming off the bench.

I could add more on what the Raptors may want to do if they were to start Ford but....ya. I've typed enough.

Kapono's release is instant. Nonetheless, I still haven't seen him shoot more with either Ford or Calderon.

Chuckfino, TJ and the Chuckmunks and Dixie Chucks needs to teach Kapono how to chuck the ball like a wood chuck, chucking wood.

How's that for a tongue twister.

Humphries needs to teach Kapono how to flip on the Jordan switch, perimeter-style.

the thing is, which ever PG is on the floor with Bosh seems to defer to him a lot more, thus freezing out the other 3 guys ...

Kapono is not taking any more 3s because he does not want to lose his number 1 spot in3FG%. He is scared.
