Will the Sixers make a playoff run?
It's hard to believe but looking at the standings, it appears that Philly could make a decent playoff run. Boston, Cleveland, Detroit, Orlando, & Toronto look like definite playoff teams given their above .500 records. Washington has slipped but should still get in, especially if Arenas returns.
I would guess that New York, Miami, Milwaukee & Charlotte have little chance so I'm counting them out.
That leaves Philly, the Nets, Atlanta, Indiana, & Chicago fighting for the final 2 spots. Atlanta & Chicago appear to be in disarray. That leaves the SIxers, Nets, & Indiana fighting for the final two spots. Thoughts.

I don't see us upsetting the top 4 teams in the East this year.
We can beat any team outside of Boston, Cleveland, Detroit, and Orlando.
We're better than NJ and ATL without a doubt.
Washinton(more of a threat with Arenas) & Toronto are slightly better than us, but we would match up well against them.

agree about the top 4 teams. i actually think toronto is a tough matchup for us as well with their ridiculous outside shooting.
besides that, i think the sixers would at least have a chance against any other team in the east. it depends on what type of energy they bring. unfortunately they're so inconsistent, i doubt they'd be able to sustain it for even one playoff series.

We have no shot to win a series...but that doesn't mean we can't benefit from making it in. People who don't really get it always say "When you're the eighth seed, you stay the eighth seed"...but this team needs a taste of success and could benefit greatly from being on the positive end of something. Besides, if we picked 15th or something and ended up with a player like Kevin Love, that'd be good for this team as well

agree 100%.
that's what bothers me so much about the concept of "tanking." i don't see the logic: so you have your current roster lose games for the purpose of bringing in a rookie who's supposedly going to turn the franchise around. and what happens to the 11 other players on the roster who you told to lose because they're not good enough to get anywhere? they're not going to see it as "well we gained a missing piece, we should be thankful." we need to make our current players confident in their own skills, unless we plan on drafting and FA'ing 12 new players this year.....

If you can get into the playoffs, I say do it!
Look at the Warriors last year. They got in and upset Dallas. No one gave them a chance for that. If the Sixers get in at #8 and face Boston and Garnett goes down for the playoffs in game 1, the Sixers will definitely beat Boston.
Anything can happen in the playoffs. The only team I would be wary of facing in the playoffs though is Detroit. Other than that, Orlando, Cleveland, Toronto and even Boston are totally beatable in a 7 game series.

According to Hollinger, not only do we have a 60% chance of making the playoffs... his odds have us making it as a 7 seed. Bring on the Pistons! Uhhh, we're doomed!

Nice find. Actually I was thinking that we had a good shot at #7 or #8. The million dollar questions center on moves that Atlanta, NJ, Indiana, and/or Chicago make. All of those teams should try to improve. I'm not reading too many rumors though. If they stand pat, I think we have a decent shot.

Andre Miller playing like an all star right now has me believing that we should not only keep him as our point guard but we have a legit shot at making the playoffs. I think we are better than Atlanta, New Jersey, and Washington. All three of those teams are on their downfall as we are on the rise. I really think we are going to make the playoffs. Even if we lose in the first round who cares making the playoffs atleast puts us on the map to the nation as a team improving which then leads to possible big names wanting to come here to complete the team and make them into a contender. At this point keep Miller.
