The Kohls grocery bag revolt

Post#1 » by paulpressey25 » Tue Feb 12, 2008 5:55 am

Ok guys, I know you want to do a petition, etc, etc, for Kohl. I don't want to dump water on that, but that will not register with Herb. He won't care and the guys who work in the front office won't care.

If you really want impact you need to coordinate at least 50 guys (preferably 100) and all go to a Saturday night game after the all star break. Everyone buys a $10 ticket. Everyone uses a brown paper Kohls grocery bag that is decorated with the phrase you want on it. It's got to be 50 guys because security can't take out that many people at once.

All 50-100 guys put the bags on and start walking around the lower bowl concourse in the 5 minutes before gametime. Just as the lower bowl corporate types and Kohl are all taking their seats.

Before doing this, a few local media types need to be tipped off so they have a camera there to cover it. In the meantime, the corporate season ticket fanbase that Kohl needs to keep in place will get a kick out of this and it will cause some comments. If done right, it will even get a blurb mention in a Mark Stein column or the like.

Trust me, an action like that WILL embarrass Kohl and he will be furious. Whether it produces the desired result, I have no idea. But a petition will not accomplish anything.

Agree completely. I am down if this is the way people want to go. Once again, we could organize pregame at a local bar near the BC. It would take a miracle to get 50 people out of this forum to do it though.

I agree media exposure is key and this would have a greater impact. However, good luck getting it pulled off.

As a full-time student in Madison, this isn't a realistic option for me to take part of. It isn't for most people in Wisconsin. And are there that many people in Milwaukee you could contact to participate? More power to you, honestly, if so.

When Seattle fans made a fuss, they used the media as well. If we could get the petition into the media, it would certainly help and it would give it more mass appeal. Don't ask me how to accomplish that, though.

it would never happen. But if we could get say 10 guys to go as a group the the Feb. 23rd game, and they all brought extra bags, maybe we could pass them out within a 400 level section if the Bucks got down early and played like crap. Of course if by some chance the Bucks played good, that wouldn't work.

Here is my list of guys who I think would possibly do it and actually show up:
Gad
Nowak
Bluejeep
Andrew
Andrew's friend who also posts (I'm drawing a blank)
and myself

So there are 6 people who if I had to pick would participate, would be the best bets. Seriously, I am pretty sure I will be going to that game with GAD so if people really want to do something. Lets get it done. We can meet at fitzgibbons before the game. It wont be too crowded and we can get some stiff drinks to help us get a little rowdy before heading to the game. If we get thrown out, who gives a ****? We will all just buy $10 dollar tickets anyway and can all filter back to the bar as we get tossed from the game. That sounds like fun.

I am up for it. The sad thing is that i have been planning on doing this for a while now. We could give away brown paper bags at the entrances. We need to get some inside info when kohl is actually there.

I'd so do this if I lived within a 12 hour flight of the place. Surely there are guys around here who can spare $10 and a few hours on a Saturday night?

A good way would be to bring like 200 of them and hand them out for people to wear.

There will people that aren't on this board that will want to get in on it.

If you're going to do this, make sure it's on a game that will get some sort of wider exposure (which, for the current Bucks may be difficult). So do it against a big market team and make sure you're on the side of the court where the game TV cameras point towards.

If you guys are serious about that, that's awesome. I suggest seeking out other Bucks boards and seeing how many guys and girls you can round up. Bring your significant others!

If I can make it I will, but to be honest I doubt it. I'll keep up on this thread and look for an official date.

Great, just one question, who has the time machine to go back two years and get the Kohl's grocery bags?

Well, just get normal bags that say, "You sold your grocery store, why not the Bucks?"

I kid. After that he'd probably sell it to a party that'd move.

We should pick one of these 3 games:

Sat Feb 23rd Denver
Sat March 1st San Antonio
Sat March 15th Boston

All three games should be blowouts, so there's a better chance the passing out paper bag thing would be a hit. We probably wouldn't even need them though if we get enough board members.

Edit: Just wanted to add that I think this would go great with a petition. Like Mike says below, listing the URL to the petition on the bags could get some nice free publicity.

Viva la resistance.

If ALLCAPS got a website going where we could list the petition, it might be useful to expose the site URL at the game, as well, so anyone that might see it either at the arena or on TV could go and express their concern as well.

Just a thought.

Or buy a whole pile of those bags and hand them out to fans as they go into the game.

I think, for the not so bright here, it's a wise idea to emphasise that you need the paper bags. A half hearted attempt to join in using a plastic bag might not end so well.

How about sit across from Kohl's section with a sign that asks if he's still happy he vetoed Simmons for Marion.

The good thing about the Denver game is Karl will be on the sideline. The only time I've ever seen Kohl show emotion at a game was when the Bucks blew a big lead and lost to Denver in Karl's first game as their coach.
