Arenas is clueless

Post#1 » by sixersunderobie » Mon Feb 11, 2008 11:52 pm

Saying he doesn't think Calderon was snubbed he may not be all star worthy yet but its hard to downplay the way he is playing in Toronto.Someone needs to shut him up and I actually think If i had a choice of Calderon and Arenas I might take Calderon.

I would love to get your thoughts on this
Thanks in advance

Calderon didn't make the All star team for the same reason players like Andre Miller don't make the All Star team every year. He's not exciting.

As a fan, I'd rather watch Arenas than Calderon.

Personally, I don't find the All Star game exciting anymore.

In response to you taking Calderon over Arenas, I wouldn't. I love the way Arenas plays, and as for right now. He's a "Name" He's someone that people know and that could bring a legit star presence to this team and get some more people in the seats. Not knocking Calderon in any way I just believe more in the draw of Arenas.

Plus to my surprise, Arenas is younger.

And Calderon has been playing quite well in Toronto, but that's in part to Fords injury, If Ford had continued the way he was without being injured would you put him on the team? The stats are pretty close, I don't want to judge too much since I havn't seen a single Raptors game though but I don't think Calderono deserves to be on the all-star team at this point right now.

I just read that blog and this might be his craziest post yet.

http://my.nba.com/thread.jspa?threadID=300023403

Not only does he go off about Calderon (BIG TIME) but Agent Zero keeps yapping about how he got screwed out of an All-Star game by Larry Brown.

Here's the funny thing. The two teams with cap space this summer (as of now) are Memphis and Philly. Not only does Arenas go off about Larry Brown but he also rips Memphis' GM Chris Wallace for the Gasol trade.

At the end of the day, I doubt either franchise would have gone after him but burning those bridges isn't the smartest thing to do for negotiation purposes.

"All back-up point guards have the best assist-turnover ratios. Screw it, Kevin Ollie should be an All-Star then! For like five or six years, Ollie was No. 1 in assist-turnover ratio!"

-Gilbert Arenas

Ollie was robbed!

Gilbert is so much better than Jose..........this conversation is just silly. Jose can pass and hit three which is great but Gil TAKES over games at will. it's really no contest. oh and guys get a sense of humor.

Calderon is a backup point guard that has excellent stats but he gets outplayed by every point guard he goes up against that can play. Gilbert Arenas would score 70 points on Calderon.

Arenas is the bigger name and many would say the better player but given the choice of a point guard to build my team with it would be Calderon. Arenas is a point guard who shoots more threes per game than he hands out assists, shoots a low percentage and the wizards highest win total with a player who " TAKES over games at will" is 45 in the East and this wizards team will finish around 500 which would be 41 wins without him

Arenas needs to shut his mouth and worry about himself and getting back with his team.

Are people in this thread talking about building a "Fantasy basketball team" or a "Real life NBA franchise"? If this is about real life then Arenas will get picked over Calderon by EVERYONE with basketball sense. A team that starts Calderon against Arenas in a 7 game series is Guaranteed to lose. Arenas would average atleast 40 points a game.

why is everyone on Jose's jock? he's not THAT good, at all. He can shoot and pass ( which is is actually overated with all the shooters and Cris Bosh on that team.) Gil is the mothafrackin man and you fail to realize that add him to the raptors they'd win a chip..........Jose is average, quit overateibg the raptors players first Moon, thed Calderon, whose next Joey Ghrahm?

No one ever said Calderon was a better player. But the fact is that he's a tremendous PG at the age of 24 or 25 with a 3pt shot. He fits our offense(and alot of others) perfectly and would be my ideal target if we can't secure Josh Smith/Okafor.

I am talking about a real franchise and I am considering everything future contract, injury risk, off court yappin. and Arenas on the Raptors would not be a championship team .

Calderon is a 180 guy if the season were to end today 90%ft, 40%3pt, 50% fg and Arenas hasn't been that good in any of those categories and I would be stupid not to mention the efficiency in which plays the point guard position the real flaw I see is his defense.

take Calderon off that team and put him on any team but the suns and he is average. I mean like Damon Stoudamire average or Beno Udrih average.

lets think about what he has and what he would not have here in philly.

1st. Bosh-thats probably 5 assists rights there.

2nd everyone on that team, except Humphries and Baston, can shoot the ball.

has anyone considered that this is the exact opposite of what we are!
Let me recap- Low post threat and shooters = bizarro sixers.

let me take this a step further than choosing arenas over Calderon (which is easy gilbert with his left hand only); I would rather resign Andre miller to a 2 year extension for 15 mil than sign Calderon for the 40 mil over 4 or god forbid 50 over 5 per he's gonna get this off season. Someone will overpay and regret it . It better not be us. he doesn't take over games he hit open threes and open teammates. Andre is a better passer. here I said it. And don't come at me with those assist numbers. If Miller played for toronto he be averaging 10 pts and 13 assists, i have no doubt about that.

The way Andre is playing right now, with this team, i think we have our point guard issue solved for the next 2 to 3 years and i see no need to address it. If anything you go after GIlbert to play the 2.

By the way, i like his blog. Its pretty funny. The other thing i like is, he really doesn't care about money. I am sure he will still look for the dollars, but that won't be the focus of his decision. I think he is pretty smart and probably understands that the job also has to be rewarding and not just a paycheck.

Maybe I'm missing something. What is Miller doing on this team that is so great? He's averaging a whopping 6.5 assists per game. And that's pretty sad for someone touted as one of the few good pass first PGs left in the league. I understand he's put up some pretty nice stats over the past week or so, but what else am I missing?

I would trade Miller for Calderon any day of the week for now or the future.
