Is Miller's Trade Value At It's Highest?
Like most of you, I'm becoming a schizophrenic on the subject of Andre Miller. While I know how much he means to this team, will his trade value ever be higher than it is right now? Player of the week, savior of one of the youngest teams in the NBA, genuine floor general who makes everyone better, etc., etc. On the other hand, now would be the time when other contenders would be willing to give us the most for him in my opinion. I can't help but wonder what some of the offers have been for Miller. Also, just how much of a drop-off would this team experience with Lou at the point and Ollie backing him up? Then again, we don't know if another PG would be coming back for Miller and how that would influence the drop-off - or if there'd be a drop-off at all. Thoughts?

My intitial answer was "yes, this is the highest" but after thinking this through I believe his value will become higher next year.
Right now, the only teams that are going to bid on him are teams that believe they can contend for a title and need a PG. I believe that list is now down to 3: Denver, Cleveland, and Orlando (Boston doesn't count because they have nothing to make a deal work).
After this season, Miller will become an expiring contract which means that we could see a number of teams have interest in him (his $10MIL expiring will be one of the largest expiring contracts out there).

It's hard to gauge, I thought he was worth a lot more when the Cavs traded him to the Clippers a few years ago (He averaged 16.5 a game and led the league in assists with 10.9 per game) But they didn't get all that much back. Any team who is close enough and needs a true point guard to put them over would want him, but I can't imagine many other teams being interested. I agree with The Guilty Party, If Miller can have a year next year like he's having this year on top of being a large expiring contract, he will be much easier to move and we will get a lot more back.

Most GM's in the NBA are just like basketball fans, they tend not to like players that can't run fast, dunk, shoot 3 point jump shots and dominate games by themselves. That's why Joe Dumars is the Only GM that has won a title in like a million years without the best player in the game. That's also why the east hast been so horrible. I expect Miller's value to rise next season when he becomes an expiring in addition to his production which most likely will INCREASE just like most good NBA players in a contract year.

The Mavs are crazy in my opinion. Devin Harris is pretty good to begin with. And they're also sending Diop as well? If Kidd is worth THIS much to the Mavs, then I'd imagine that Stefanski must have received some very attractive offers for Miller. Also, the sooner the Kidd deal goes down the better for us. With Kidd off the market, I would imagine Miller's value to really rise.

Is Miller's value at it's highest? The answer is yes...but it's also at it's highest value to US.
Andre Miller, right now at this point is worth more to this team than draft picks, cap relief, young players or any combination of them. He's the glue that keeps this team together, he's helping the young guys get better and he's the best pure point guard we've had since Mo Cheeks. I don't understand how people are in such a rush to trade him.

Here's how I feel about it. I do like Miller. But I also think contrary to many others, that Lou Williams can play the point. And while he doesn't have Miller's floor vision yet, I think he can develop it as he gains more experience. I also think his quickness compliments the rest of our players. Does Lou = Miller? No. But can Lou "fill in" for Miller in my opinion? Yes. I would rather settle with Lou at the point and try to acquire a decent PF and picks than stick with Miller. That's just my opinion on the situation. I don't expect everyone to agree with it.

Could that be an indication of how difficult it is to "make" a point guard in the NBA. We have one, and I would suggest keeping him
Or it could be that the Nets wanted a PG back. You have to give to get, you know.

just posted about this in the kidd thread...
but i think this trade, in conjunction with the whole mass exodus to west coast power house teams, actually lowers miller's value.
like TGP said higher up, the only teams that would be willing to make a deal at this point are those who believe they have a chance in the playoffs against these monsters. that is down to only cleveland, orlando, and denver (there are other teams who have not-quite-elite status like NO and utah but they obviously don't need a PG). otherwise, teams like atlanta, chicago, or whoever else has been mentioned i think will be more reluctant at this point to give up future building blocks for miller, whose value as a player is higher in the present than it will be in the future. since future building blocks is all we really want, i'm not sure there's any way miller can be moved.
