Calling Dwight Out!!

Post#1 » by mattyBoi » Tue Feb 12, 2008 6:14 am

Check out ESPN highlights of the magic/cavs game.

Couldnt find a link but stuart scott calls dwight out.

First says lebron is hitting shots in dwights grill.

Then stops the tape, puts an arrow on dwights head and says watch as dwight howard does nothing, just stands there and lets lebron have an easy two.

Then went to shot of unhappy dwight on bench.

This is getting public!!!!

I'm sure Stuart Scott would gladly take an enema of Lebron's sweat if he was ever backed up.

It's a matter of proportions, and Stewey is blowing it out of proportion.

But part of their job is to make controversy to gain viewership.

Hopefully so. However, it's a rarity when ESPN highlights good defense.

man oh man...i have been highlighting Dwight's decline for weeks, and I was told that "hey 12rpg is still good" "he's just tired" "he's got a new baby"

difference is, I saw a completely different guy, not someone who is tired...he's not responding to SVG...so, I'm looking forward to a revitalized Dwight...

Why are you expecting him to be "revitalized"?

His being called out by SVG? ESPN?

dwight will get his touches end of story. why limit dwight to just rebounds and defense when he can take over on offense? it has never made sense to me and never will. give dwight 14 or 15 shots a game and its an automatic 24 or 25ppg.

I've seen a different Dwight for greater than 2 weeks too. I wonder what happen that made him lose his desire to rebound and play defense and look more for his offense? Built up frustration due to being ignored for large parts of the game and not getting a lot of shot attempts?

Dwight has never come across as someone who is comfortable with being less than stellar, and he's been coasting over the past 3 weeks. I see this as a wakeup for him. I'm assuming that this might make Dwight and SVG closer, they will have a coming to grips meeting, and maybe get some understanding going. He wont respond to the media coverage by letting himself slip further, at least that's my interpretations of Dwight and my anticipation of the situation...

Dwight strives for better, he has said he wants to be the best player ever, and he knows this isnt getting it done...

I agree with your thought process.

But it seems like it needs to be a team effort to find a balance. So SVG and D12 can come to an understanding, but if the game play doesn't change much, then will D12 get frustrated again in the future?

The "good" thing about this, if you will, is that Dwight wasn't on the bench laughing and joking while we were losing. Granted he didn't come back in with much fire, but still ...

I just want our guys to develop a hatred of losing.

I agree, some things might need to change, and 60% of that is on SVG's shoulders, he needs to come up with a revised game plan...

how about the other elephant in the room, Reshard Lewis, does he still play for the Magic? I've seen his name on the game plan, but I haven't seen him doing anything lately...

Agreed. I just don't think anyone, except for karizma, expected Hedo to have the season he is having.

Had Tony not had his shoulder injury, we'd have a starting lineup of

Jameer
KeBo/Evans
Shard
Battie
Howard

Shard is very much a compliment player. He fits much better in this line-up than having Hedo next to him and he playing the 4, imo. But I don't know if this lineup is as explosive or effective as what we have now.

Our team is like a sine wave. For instance Lewis comes out aggressive and we give him the ball, then for the next few games he's back in the shadows, then we focus on running plays for him, and then he's a spot up 3 guy again.

We had a span of about a 5 or 6 games where it would be a 3 man offensive game plan - Dwight set's a screen for Jameer or Hedo and then rolls to the basket. Then Jameer/Hedo would pass to Rashard, and Rashard would either shoot or make a blazingly quick entry pass.

That's been noticeably absent from the game play recently.

I'm still thinking that SVG is trying to see just exactly what he has to work with, thus the great variations in game styles from week to week.

it does seem like rashard disapears for long stretches also.... he just seems do the minimum needed .... i think he and dwight are underused but the only people that should take a step back in the offense is the people at pg and sg. maurice evans should not shoot the ball 12 times in anygame.... just as dwight needs to concentrate on d and rebounding the same needs to be said for our sg's....
Summertime and the livin's easy....

Im actually loving this. Finally some fire, this team has been "nice" for too long. Some controversy will surly help. Dwight wants to be more of a scorer however, I don

Both Dwight and Rashard are more dependent on people helping them out than those who create for themselves, like Jameer and Hedo.

That's part of game planning and beating it into the heads of the other players.

I agree about our SG, they should be primarily relief valves.

It's just hard getting that balance. Look at the Spurs, different players are dominant at different times, sometimes it's Ginobli, other times it's Parker, and then it's Duncan.

I think Dwight can handle not being the focus for a game or two if Rashard or Hedo or Jameer is hot. But game after game we start by running plays for him and then, especially in the 4th quarter, we go away from him.
