ESPN: 76ers Trying to Acquire Lowry

Post#1 » by The Guilty Party » Tue Feb 12, 2008 7:44 pm

The Nuggets, Bulls, 76ers, Heat, Warriors and Nets are among the teams seeking to acquire Lowry, the 24th overall pick in 2006 who became expandable when the Grizzlies acquired Javaris Crittenton from the Lakers in the Gasol trade.

This from Chris Sheridan's column today about the upcoming trade deadline. Even though this is part of ESPN Insider... it's in the "FREE" section so it's worth a read.

I know Lowry is a favorite on this board and since I don't believe LouWill is the PG of the team's future, I think this would be a great move (depending on what we had to give).

Would you part with Utah's first for Lowry??

I would, but I think you would need to give a little more than that actually.

I think Lowry could end up being very good. So I'm aboard as long as the price isn't too steep (and considering they gave up Gasol for peanuts, I doubt it will be).

The bidding could be tough especially if those other teams are bidding for him. I wouldn't give up this year's pick and the column does state that Memphis may want that.

EDIT: I forgot that Chris Wallace is the GM in Memphis. I'm sure we could get Lowry straight up for Amundson in that case. :-)

We need to get one of their PG's, while Memphis is still having their yard sale.

It's a shame they plan on keeping Crittenton. :-(

Lowry would be ok with me. I'll be interested to see what he brings from whoever gets him

Looks like he had a good stretch of games the end of January.

13 pts 10 assists vs. Wash
21 pts 4 assists, 8 reb vs. Clips
17 pts 4 assists, 5 reb vs. Dallas
19 pts, 1 assist, 4 reb vs. Nuggs

He was playing big minutes in those games though he wouldn't get that kind of time here with Miller around. I guess he could be a good backup pt.

Perhaps Miller isn't as solid here as we might think

I thought the same thing. Acquiring Lowry would be a step in the right direction.

I honestly dont put much stock into anything ESPN insiders say. They're probably still going off of the rumored Carney for Lowry from a year ago.

Haha...true. I do believe that they know info on this level...but much after "Who's in the mix" they just speculate wildly

What was Lowrys injury that took him out of most of his rookie year?

i don't understand why would acquire lowry. we have miller. we have williams. does that mean williams wouldn't be re-signed? does that mean miller is getting traded? does that mean williams is a backup SG for the next 5 years? it doesn't make sense.

It could be simply to give the team options. It's probably fair to say that teams truly are pursuing Miller and that Stefanski is hesitant to deal him. However, he might be less hesitant if he at least had another young prospect to replace him if he was inclined to deal him. Basically, Ed may feel much better about moving Miller if he had Lowry, although to compare the two is absurd. It's just that the team would at least have a potential replaement. As for Williams, I think the plan is to bring him back because Miller may be on the trading block for as long as he remains in Philly (and Williams is about 20 anyway) and Lowry might not pan out either. I don't think either move means anything with regard to bringing Williams back.

Has Lowry improved his jump shot? I don't know how well I like Lowry, Iguodala and Young togther given none of them has a great jump shot. Someone like Calderon (who will be much more pricey) seems to be a better fit.

Ed Stefanski can easily acquire a PG back in the trade (with miller)

Yeah, especially when the author of the rumor says that lowry has become "expandable."

Are you claiming he has not? Perhaps he's growing as we speak
