This ain't about panic, it's about that we are *maybe* one player away to fix all our glaring holes. Then, we can win big or go Dallas in the postseason, of course it takes luck, motivation, and only one team win.
The FO has done a terrific job bringing Iverson and JR Smith. Letting Bobby Jones go was dissapointing, but Memphis don't seem too high on this guy, even after an awesome game, so there must be something holding him back. Atkins wasn't a good idea, but the contract is kinda friendly.
I don't want to be boring, but we need a backcourt player and I would fire Karl right away. He is as headcase and combustible as some bad-rep players, he's constantly calling out his own players, he has a man crush on scrubs, 90% of his career has been underacheivements, he's too flat on games and I'm still waiting to see some designed offense. Thank God Denver had the fastbreak as a hallmark well before him, otherwise this team would be a complete isolation chaos.
Maybe we wouldn't need that backcourt player if Karl has a clue on how to combine Diawara, Carter and JR strengths. But he's too lazy to make in-game adjustments and to develop young guys, so he plays the safe card, the veteran who doesn't make mistakes.
Truth is, even thought he's a piece of... bad coach, I don't know if there are options out there better than him.

Personally, I am not eager to see them trade much away for a guy like Artest. Artest in no way guarantees Denver a championship and sets the team back a few years if we give up too much for him.
All of the panic about "oh no the Lakers got Gasol! The Suns got Shaq! Hurry up and do something! is crazy. Both of those teams were better than Denver to begin with anyway. Haste makes waste.
So far this management team hasn't done anything to lead me to believe they're incompetent. I wasn't a big fan of the Chucky move but he was about the best choice available at the time. Even if the team isn't winning rings yet, the AI move made Denver basketball much more interesting to follow.
And be glad you have an owner who is willing to spend some money to make the team better. Otherwise you should start rooting for the Clippers and Grizzlies.
I am glad that the owner is willing to spend money...as a fan...all you can truely ask for is someone committed to winning and bringing a championship here...I see that in Kroenke. That being said, I don't have to agree with ownership's and the FO's every move.
Well, their job is to find players and make trades that make us better than the Lakers and or the Suns. So basically you are saying we are good and should be happy with good? This team is built on winning now (Camby, Martin, Iverson, and Carter) all are over 30. The Rebel's right... except for Kleiza...the FO hasn't drafted anyone to develop (yes, I know Kleiza was a trade, but a draft day trade so basically he was our pick). They developed Kleiza, but he's at a position we have our franchise player? They have in the last 4 years traded away 6 1st round draft picks and you think they should be patient? They are in win mode now more than most fans.
I don't care if they trade for Artest or not...but set us back if we give up too much? Who Kleiza? He's not going to stay behind Melo his entire career. He could probably start for at least 10 teams and it would help him improve more. Who JR? can be a brilliant offensive player, but the coach is constantly mad at him (sometimes right, sometimes not) his progression had slowed down greatly and he has lost some of his value.
If it will make us more competitive and give the Nuggets a better chance at winning games and going further in the playoffs and make them a better team... I don't care who they trade. They will have to re-shape this team in 2 or 3 years down the road anyway.
Yeah, some of the deals I see people proposing, especially ones including Kleiza and a 1st rounder are too much, particularly given that Artest could be gone next year anyway. I don't think Artest is the missing piece though.
Kleiza's the one good move we've made through the draft recently. Why give that up easily? You're complaining about the lack of 1sts - something that bugs me too- so why trade a 1st again unless it's really worth it? We basically agree.
I'm not saying the team should just sit around and hope things will get better though. I'm just saying I hope they wait for the right move and don't rush things. I've read too much stuff on this board about "make a move!" but I'd much, much rather keep the same team than have management miscalculate.

The "fire Karl!" chanting I see going on here is exactly the type of panic I'm talking about. Yeah he makes mistakes, but if the team truly is in "win now" mode, you don't do that by firing your coach midway through the season. When you do that you might as well acknoweldge that you're not getting a championship that year.
If a good move is there - and remember that when you fill a hole you often create one- they should make it. But otherwise let the year play out and make changes in the offseason.

Some PG ideas. I try to stop on feasable, nearly pure PG's since nobody (besides me) wants AI playing the point.
In conclusion, we're
Nobody is a perfect fit, in my opinion.
Jason Kidd
Pros: 6'4", a true leader, passing off the charts, defense above average (declining, thou)
Cons: Eponymous contract, blockbuster trade, can't find the ocean with a rock, he could get involved in a rebounding stat-stuffing fight with Camby
Marcus Banks
Pros: 6'2", good defense, hit 7 3's against us
Cons: Bad Contract (16M/4Y), dissapointing in Phoenix, streaky shooter
Kirk Hinrich
Pros: 6'3", good defense, good J
Cons: Too expensive, we don't have the pieces
Marko Jaric
Pros: 6'7", good defense
Cons: Bloody contract (7M/4Y), not a downtown threat, not a pure PG, underachiever
Andre Miller
Pros: 6'2", above average defense, knows the system
Cons: 9 million contract, can't shoot to save his life, we can't fleece Philly so many times (can't we?)
Beno Udrih
Pros: 6'3", cheap, decent shooter
Cons: He has decent size, but his defense is average
Earl Watson
Pros: Above average defense, decent shooter
Cons: He flat-out sucked here, his defense is overated, (18M/3Y), 6'1"
Delonte West
Pros: 6'4", cheap, decent shooter, slightly above average defender
Cons: More SG than PG, he is nearly "average" in everything
Nate Robinson
Just kidding. Since he's 4'7" Karl will outplay him, for sure
Mardy Collins
Pros: 6'6", hustler player, rookie contract, awful GM might give us a extra lottery 1st round
Cons: Was slaped by our franchise player, not proven as a starter (maybe even he ain't one), looks like he can't shoot
Charlie Bell
Pros: 6'3", hustler player, cheap (3~4 millions a year), back-up on his team, good shooter
Cons: More SG than PG, even thought he's on the rise, this year he's in a slump, 5 year contract
Devin Brown:
Pros: 6'5", hustler player, cheap, decent shooter
Cons: Handling and passing skills are suspect, he doesn't play a lot on a team weaker than us.
Jarrett Jack
Pros: 6'3", slightly above average defense (let's not overrate him), rookie contract
Cons: Division rival on the other side of the trade, his 3 point shooting is suspicious

What I'd also like to recognize is that this team, while not achieving to the level its' talent dictates (because it's injuries, fit, coaching, whatever), is still really, really good. It has some pretty knowledgeable posters here complaining (and I get it, fans complain) about a team that is off to the 3d best start in franchise HISTORY. It is highly competitive in the best conference in NBA history.
Are we satisfied with that? No. Like you, our goal is to win an NBA Championship. But to the extent we fall short of that, are we incompetent fools? I mean, we ain't chopped liver, folks. We're GOOD. And we're trying to be great. And being great is pretty damned hard to do. It takes talent, it takes attitude, it takes maturity, it takes toughness, it takes coaching, it takes sacrifice, it takes intelligence, and it takes a nice helping of luck (San Antonio drafting Duncan when they had Robinson).
We're really good. We're trying to be great. Don't give up on us.
Hey even GOOD chopped liver is still chopped liver. I think the team we need to see is prime cut and fresh on the plate.
Excellence doesn't make excuses.....just gets it done.
