Clipper trade for Maggette

Post#1 » by waverider » Tue Feb 12, 2008 8:15 pm

Mike Kahn on XM radio said Blazers were discussing a Joel/Jack for Maggette trade FWIW - from Olive forum

I've always thought Maggette could be a great addition, but not at the cost of giving up our only good rebounder. About the only reason I could see Portland doing this is if they felt the only way to get under the cap the way they want is to get an expiring for Joel. Which IMO isn't very likely.

Maybe the Clippers called and offered this. But Portland wouldn't do it unless a draft pick was changing hands as well.

Cant see why the Clippers would do it...they got Kaman who's a stud, so are they so desperate for a backup center and a combo guard? could get either one in a Cassell trade.

I think trading Jack is neccessary, it's almost an addition by substraction. Would like to keep Joel, and while Maggette is great, he's not really what we need at SF. But maybe we could get something of value from him in the summer, when we'll own his Bird Rights for a sign and trade. Maybe to Toronto for Calderon?

Addition by subtraction my butt, Maggettes a stud and can get to the free throw line at will. Whatever "vast improvements" everyone places on Martell I can firmly support Corey is capable of by far.

This trade would provide another efficient go to scorer when Brandon or Lamarcus is off.

I really like the idea of acquiring Magette. He's exactly what this team needs offensively and while I don't think it makes sense for either team this season, I would be interesting in a deal like this in the offseason. Also, Magette is a VERY underrated rebounder. He is no Joel but trading joel for him wouldn't be completely compromising our team's rebounding. I worry about the blazers' interior defense but it's definitely something to consider.

EDIT: I just noticed that Magette's deal has 2 years left so it might be worth considering. I know Joel's brought a spark to this team at times but since KP seems pretty gung ho on going with the 09 capspace plan, this trade would definitely fit into his plans.

Isn't Maggette one of Donald Sterling's favorite players? Obviously favoritism only gets you so far (in the case of Miles it sets you up for life... but I digress), but why would LA do this? Joel P seemingly would mean a lot more to Portland than he would LA.

Are the Clippers really that interested in Przybilla?! Also, why in the world would Portland trade Joel without getting any sort of C back?

I think Maggette could help Portland some, but this talk of trading our only C makes absolutely no sense.

I wouldn't mind Raef+Jack for Mobley+Corey. Then we buy out Mobley.

Maggette was brought up this summer as an addition and I wasn't in favor of it because of his career 3 pt %. But he improved on it a lot this season. And having now seen the weaknesses with the blazers, I think he'd be a great addition.

So I could see KP discussing maggette with the clipper FO. I just don't see portland trading Pryzbilla for him.

The problem for portland aquiring a player with an 7.8 million salary is sending out enough salary in compensation. That's why Pryz would be "included" in salary calculations

With foresight in mind then..

Blake/Roy/Sergio/Fernandez?/Green?
Roy/Fernandez/Webster
Magette/Webster/Jones
Aldridge/Outlaw/Frye/McBob?
Oden/Frye/LaFrentz

Or Magette with T.O. and Sergio on the second unit? I dunno

edit: jeez this team is crazy

Spykes, Clips really have no C besides Kaman and they need a PG, have no idea if this is BS or not but it actually makes some sense. Plus Al Thornton is playin well and takes Mags spot - and they make room for him.

Id crap my pants if we were able to pull off this trade. maybe it opens up some minutes for McRoberts if Frye takes over Center full time, and I think Raef can still play some decent back up minutes that he could help out the rest of the season. Maybe we pick up "The bodyguard" Chris Ellis for the rest of the season

Jack
Przybilla

for

Meggette
Davis

Dont see the Clippers doing this because
they probably put a high value on Megg.. .

It would take away the Blazers only true
center besides Raef and would put a lot
of pressure on Oden next season unless
Pritchard wheels & deals for a vet center.

Maybe Przy is moved because Nate doesnt
play him much & Pritchard uses his value
for the team instead of Nate using Przy??

Davis can't be dealt because he'd fail his physical (torn ACL).

It doesn't matter that he would fail his physical. He would be waived. Honestly at first I thought no way, but the more I think about it the better it seems. Hell the more I think about it the more excited I get. Mags is a slasher and a hell of a good one too, his contract expires at the right time and I would rather trade Pryz than Frye.

Interesting..............

I've always liked Przybilla and like the defensive presense we would / will have with Oden and him in the middle.

But, I would lean to doing this trade.

If it did happen it would also mean that Pritchard is very serious about the 2009 cap space plan.

Fair enough from the Clips POV. I still don't care for it from Portland's standpoint though.

I am a huge Joel fan, but quite simply this deal is just too good to pass down.

Using foresight, this deal is a must.
