The team needs to hit him on the pick and roll. They've become so accustomed at just using his picks and not even looking for him that he hardly even rolls any more.

Chris (Orlando, FL): Give us your quick Orlando Magic fix. What can be done to get us over the hump.

SportsNation John Hollinger: (3:27 PM ET ) Stan has taken an interesting direction here. The D has been substandard for a while and I think he knows Dwight is the one guy who can make it significantly better, because none of the other four are elite defenders. So he takes a risk by calling out his star, but it's a card that he had almost no choice but to play.
Dwight Howard on his FT struggles:

"I just think everybody needs to stop talking about it," Howard said. "There's more to life than free throws."

Dee (Greenville, NC): Yea and its a card Stan might want to take back. Howard is the franchise and if this causes a rift I'm pretty sure Stan will be gone before Howard.

SportsNation John Hollinger: (3:29 PM ET ) Well, that's the risk obviously, but job security is a wonderful thing. If Stan was in the final year of his contract I imagine there'd be less chance of this happening.

Will you STFU about Dwight getting more touches in every single of your damn post ?

Get this:
DWIGHT IS ALREADY AVERAGING 17.9 SHOTS A GAME.

oh ok. i have been calling for dwight howard to get the ball since the beginning of the season because it pisses me off. i don't want the ball to run through him every play because we got some many weapons. but come on 11FGA per game? are you kidding me. just give him at least 14FGA. not too much to ask for. how about you look at how his involvement in the offense as the season goes on november 14FGA and 12 FTA. december 12 FGA and 13 FTA. january 11FGA and 11FTA. and you know what? our winning precentage for each month has gone down too.

so all we have to do is give dwight an extra shot per game and get back to our winning ways :D

it amazes me how often people mix up correlation with cause and effect.

1. stupid.
2. just looking at the fga+fta does not give the exact number of possessions gone through a certain player.
3. fga+fouls committed on the player+turnovers is the exact number of possessions a player is responsible for.
4. fouls committed on the player does not necessarily equal fta/2.
5. if you can find the statistics for these 2 figures for each and every player, then it makes sense to talk about the ratio of distribution among players.
6. until then, just beat your favorite animal.
only 10 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists shy of yet another triple double - anonymous

it gives you a measureing stick its not an end all be all but it is something to think about... like svg saying were 22-2 when dwight blocks 3+ shots a game... its not saying we will win no matter what when blocks 3 but it lets you know that when he is defensively active we win more often than not.... just like this guys showing winnning percentage does lean towards the fact that dwight is more active in the offense
Summertime and the livin's easy....

I really can't blame Dwight Howard. Has no defensive help, first and last line of defense. Plus the last 7 games he really hasn't gotten into the Offense. I've taken notice of that.

Only problem I saw was yesterdays game where SVG got so mad at Dwight he took him out? Why? When you do that, you pretty much forfeit the game. Especially when Lebron "I'm like a Line-Backer" goes inside like 4 times in a row.

i am not saying dwight getting more touches equals more wins. i was just showing dwights involvement in the offense in terms of FTA and FGA has gone down. it just so happens we were winning more with the 14FGA dwight howard than the 11FGA. just throwing it out there.

Of course Dwight getting more touches equals more wins! Hello! That's what a dominant big man is for.

When we run the offense from inside out, we look great. Unfortunately we only do it for the 1st quarter. You guys say Dwight isn't ready to take over in the 4th. What about the 2nd and 3rd? He doesn't get the ball then either.

Ever thought that maybe our games wouldn't be so close if we fed the ball more consistantly to Dwight through the whole game? Are we forgetting the beginning of the season already when Dwight was dominating on both sides?

Dwight should get 15 shots per game. Even more. Don't care he goes to the line a lot. This team has no Kobe Bryant to take shots from him and I've seen guys like David Robinson get 15 shots a game and go to the line just as much. Dang even more shots. I've said before though that the point guards on this team don't play to Dwight. There drive and kick plays more to Rashard and Hedo than Dwight.

Overall Dwight has not played well. There lucky the schedule has featured some teams that it hasn't cost them against. Simply put if Dwight is not the best player on the floor the Magic can not compete with the elite teams. Dwight started the year playing the most dominate big man I've seen in years and he needs to get back to that.

I know what you're saying, but isn't that kind of the definition of drive and kick? Dwight's usually in the vicinity of the drive-and-kicker, surrounded by people.

Atleast they got Raja Bell and Grant Hill, who are guys who can play defense.

I have been waiting for that moment where Dwight explodes defensively. He has always been a "nice" defender but he could be so much better. He doesn't have the intensity....yet. I think this might be the situation where we get it out of him.

It would help to have more defensive minded players on the team as well. Defense can be infectious. The only guy with that mentality to defend every second is Dooling.
