Are the Sixers capable of pulling a Bobcats in the draft???

Post#1 » by GreenWithEnvy » Wed Feb 13, 2008 3:54 am

do you think if the Sixers move Miller before the draft and open up enough cap space that they take on a more than serviceable big man by trading their lottery pick???

so for instance

Sixers trade the #10 overall pick for Player A

im not naming any names but do you think Ed has that in his cards?

and if so who are the candidates that we'd go after?

Bargnani? Harrington? Haslem? Wilcox? Nene (if healthy)?

None of the players that you mentioned are worth the pick. I would utilize the draft pick for a big time player who is on the trading block. We just have to wait for the right occasion.

Agreed. None of the players you mention are worth trading cap space and a pick for. That said, he's certainly "capable" of doing that, why wouldn't he be "capable" of doing this???

In order for him to do it though, I think that player would have to be one helluva name. I mean, in order for us to trade our pick AND cap space, he would more or less be starting and ending our off-season on draft night. The type of player it would take for that to happen is NOT going to be made available.

i think in order to pull a move like that u need one of two things to happen

a) a team has a high paid player who is disgruntled and/or has a lesser paid player who can perform the same job (richardson/ellis)

b) a team has had enough of a young player and wants to trade him while it can still get a decent pick back (see telfair/boston)

now without thinking much, i think bargani fits b but as a team thats trying to win now, i see the raps dealing him for an established player...im not gonna think of other names off the top of my head but i think those are the scenarios which could land u a decent current player for our pick

Well down, Salvistine (Sal for short??). I agree with both of your examples and so, for conversations sake, what other names can we come up with that meet this criteria.

Example A
Eddy Curry
Zach Randolph
Nene
Corey Maggette (if he doesn't opt-out)
Mike Miller
Udonis Haslem
Michael Redd
Mehmet Okur
TJ Ford

Example B
Adam Morrison
Shelden Williams
Tyrus Thomas
Charlie Villanueva

The Group A people do nothing for me. Of Group B, I *might* trade our pick for Thomas or Villanueva if Arthur wasn't on the board.

In Group A I would love to obtain somehow Miller or Redd for a reasonable value. I think they would fit into our group very well. At the end of the day though, we have to pass on ANY swing men as long as we have not fixed our power forward problem yet. I am still insisting on trading for Elton Brand. Hitherto the Clippers have not signalized to trade him yet but seeing Thornton emerge into a legit NBA player, they might consider a move for more flexibility and some talents. I would offer them our cap room, LW, our pick (12-15) and Jason Smith / Jazz pick.

We'd have to win the rest of our games for me to trade our 1st rounder for either CV or TT...I am sure we can find a two-way player in the teens/low 20s.

What if we traded miller now, let the young guns develop and we fall to pick 6, and then with that pick we draft someone, and with our cap we sign someone. I'm not prepared to sacrifice a pick for a half decent player

GreenWithEnvy:

Ed has actually mentioned this type of trade when he was initially hired. that now since Korver trade, and we have $10mill in space and w Andre's expiring, the 76ers could obtain a $20mill player for the future of our franchise...

If Ed waits till offseason and still decides he wants to trade Miller, he could trade Miller for a player w more years OR Miller for that $20mill player OR he could package like Miller and our #1 to move up and grab a higher pick....

Miller and 76ers first rnd pick (lets say #14) to Bucks for their top pick?? #7?? (76ers target Bayless???)

Miller to Seattle for Chris Wilcox (his extension S&T)

just scenarios --- not what I exactly hope happens....
