Tor - ATL Blockbuster that could shake things up....

Post#1 » by CaptainRon » Wed Feb 13, 2008 3:55 pm

To Atlanta:

TJ Ford
Andrea Bargnani

To Toronto:
Sheldon Williams
Tyron Lue
Marvin Williams

I know I know...people are going to hate giving up both TJ and Andrea, but think of the athletisism that Marvin would bring to the wing position and the energy Moon would give the second unit.

Depth Chart:
C - Rasho/Humph
PF- Bosh/ Sheldon
SF - Marvin/ Moon/ Kapono
SG - AP/ Delfino
PG - Jose/Lue/Dixon

Atlanta would get the point guard they need to try to make it into the playoffs and Andrea and Joe Johnson would be a great building block for the future for them.

I hate giving up a big like Andrea with the skill set that he has, but having that type of player on the wing, would open up the floor for CB4...and signing Jose is of utmost importance. Jose has proved he is a starter...and deserves to get the nod here.

Tell me what you think.......

I want Horford...but we'll never get him. In the meantime, I won't give up Bargnani for this...especially not with Ford on top.

No. Of the four wing players on Atlanta, I rate them as follows, taking into consideration contract (or likely contract) and current and probable future impact:

1. Josh Smith

2. Josh Childress

3. Joe Johnson

4. Marvin Williams

Of those four, Smith isn't on the block, and JJ is way overpaid. (I loved his back to the basket blind heave in crunch time last night...)

I take Childress over JJ and MW, and getting Childress wouldn't require giving up Ford and Bargnani pluys taking on Sheldon Williams, who has morphed into a mediocre backup.

TJ is great but yall are going to have a hard time trading him because teams are going to be scared as hell that he'll get reinjured. Atlanta is basically set with its frontcourt with Josh and Al so this trade is basically Marv for TJ, which I'd do in a second if I werent' concerned about TJs health risks.

lol... yeah bargnani's just a throw in. i mean shelden williams and tyronn lue are pretty much equal value.

This is definitely in the Hawks' favor. Raptors don't get much out of this... Marvin Williams is cool, but I wouldn't trade Bargnani and Ford for him.

The only thing I would like about this trade for Toronto is that Sheldon Williams has a soon-to-be family relationship with Anthony Parker. But aside from that, I dont see much from this trade for the Raps.

Throw in Al Horford and/or Josh Smith, I'd take it in a heartbeat. But for the two Williams' and Lue? No.

Haha, no I know that Bargnani might eventually be a poor man's Mehmet Okur and Shelden Williams might eventually be a poor man. The thing is, Atlanta has certain needs. A point guard being the biggest, but a shooter and a backup big man with decent rebounding are the others. Hypothetically Shelden is a good rebounder and Bargs is a good shooter so we are switching one need for another, unfortunately Woodson doesn't play rookies who he feels are underperforming, don't know their role, or don't work hard enough. Shelden is a shell of his last-season's self and he falls under the "doesn't know his role" catergory because he thought he should have a bigger role in the offense. Bargs is underperforming and falls under the "don't work hard enough" catergory.

... but yes, Bargs has more value than Shel.

This will shake things out alright..... In hawks favour. 1 & 5s are the hardest position to fill. In this deal, we give Atlanta both while getting a decent 3. Atlanta needs to be sweeten the pot.

I'm confused. We trade 2 of the key guys in BC's plan.. the starting PG he brought in to run the team as well as the #1 overall pick who is so important to our future. Doesn't make any sense to me. Besides, we already had a bunch of Williams' and that didn't work out too well :)

Marvin has allstar written all over him and is very tempting. Sheldon is like Joey G. and would not work in Tor.

The trade as it stands would not be accepted by BC who is incredibly high on Bargs' potential.

Love Sheldon Williams game and has defense but Toronto could get him alot cheaper as he's been playing less then steller b-ball as of late.

I like Marvin but I don't think he's a great fit as we are moving Bargnani who Colangelo loves like a son. Toronto would have the most overpriced 3rd sting SF in Kopono and we would have a terrible C rotation something I don't want to see. If we could pry Horford or Josh Smith then I am all for that but Atlanta is not giving up those two.

Honest question for Hawks fans: is Shelden really a good defender? His defensive stats are not good; Bargnani averages more blocks per minute in his career, and his on/off court defensive numbers are negative or neutral. Going by the numbers, at least, Humphries is a vastly superior defender...

Marvin has a shot to be a Caron Butler type player without being arrested 15 times, but I'd rather not gamble giving away 2 guys for 1

This is a 2-1 deal essential (Lue and Williams are poop). If this was Josh Smith, this has a much higher chance of happening, in fact it should happen. But Atlanta, with good reason, should not trade Smith unless they get a super talent back, so I can see no deal.

ATL says no, because nobody would gamble that much on Ford.
