U Gotta Play JJ wrote:Kind of hard to use the word hate for two guys that few, if any of us personally know. Neither one is a great PG. I think Nelson is more consistent (hard to believe) but Carlos, when he puts his mind into being a pass first PG, plays very well.
This topic is getting as old as the JJ topics.
I agree. They do what they can. Does anyone question their effort/hustle? I don't think so. Can't hate a guy for trying as hard as possible.
AND I'm Puerto Rican, and I AM glad to see Jameer back. We missed him.
Oh yeah, and we have a good record with our "bad" PGs... what could be...

Arroyo is a terrible team player, which in turn breaks down his PG abilities. Notice that I didnt say skills? Carlos has the knowhow and the tools to be a successful or at least a quality PG, he has just not learned how to function within a team set.
Carlos was a terror in Puerto Rico because he was T-Mac there, he got the majority of the touches, and he took the majority of the shots. He had also played with those guys a lot, they had developed a playing relationship and least we forget that they were a bit more showy than the Magic or any other NBA team is really.
Carlos has decent size and speed, he can take players to the rack straight off the dribble which is a real asset, however he often makes bad choices, he over dribbles on 70% of his possessions, he will sometimes shoot the ball too often, he has a hard time finding guys anywhere on the court, especially if they are weak side and he cannot defend at all.
Jameer is almost as bad but he is much quicker, is willing to give up the ball a little more and knows how to break a player using his drive. Jameer just hardly uses his talents correctly, which really hurts him. Jameer too, simply cannot defend.
but I would take Jameer over Carlos as my lesser of two evils...

Horrid poll.
I hate neither. I dislike both (and you can lump Dooling in there as well) at times.
Having a enthusiastic player following doesn't help Arroyo's cause much on the board, just like last season with Darko.

Actually, I was referring to the fact that I don't like our teams considered the Puerto Rican Magic to many Puerto Ricans.
However, do everyone a favor and look up the term: causticity.
This thread is ridiculous and so is your zeal for this single player. The fact that you included the cultural comment indicated that it was exactly what you were looking for. I merely gave you what you wanted and presented it out loud. You're welcome.

They BOTH sucks, they are back ups at best in the NBA. We will never win a championship with any of the two starting....BoricuaBoi wrote:Everyone thinks that arroyo fans divide this forum. well heres your chance to vent on anyhting pertaining to Arroyo, Nelson, or either stance you take with either of them. I personally dislike nelson as our stater, and not because am an Arroyo fan. Personally if Arroyo is traded I could care less as long as it brings a better player in. But some of you guys bring the Arroyo hatred to a new level. I have always said I am first and foremost a MAGIC fan and then an Arroyo fan. so those of you that say that Puerto Ricans are trying to push Nelson out for Arroyo are out of your damn minds. Im trying to push Nelson out becuase he sucks as a starting PG.

DiplomaticMagic wrote:Nobody was guarding Hughes for the most part. But Jameer was also taking it to the hoop on Hughes too. I don't get the hate for Jameer at all. He had a tough time with turnovers yesterday. I know one of them was a dropped pass from Mo Evans. But 21 pts 4 assist 4 rebs is solid in my book. I like Arroyo the good Arroyo that is..that's the arroyo we get once every 7 games. Jameer runs the offense fine. We could use an upgrade but it's not the weakest position right now. Right now we gotta get a PF.
lol, you forgot to mention 5 turnovers, only 4 assists, and he took 14 shots 3 more that Dwight, that is where the real problem lies.... he is a ballhog, and Carlos too, we are doomed, they both SUCKS....

hell yea i have but its just in is DNA he says he passes and pushes it as much as he can but sometimes he says he feels like there is no offense being produced. he believes he is playing with what SVG has told him to do. which is come out pushing and if nothing is there try and make something happen.

Interesting that Arroyo thinks he's playing in the system but SVG said that he's a "low-assist" guy.

BoricuaBoi wrote:personally i just think this is how my cousin plays. he gives you his all and doesnt hold back maybe thats why as a basketball fan i like him better than Nelson, ive met Nelson and hes cool and everything but he is pretty cocky thats what i dont like about him.
There's no question about his competitive fire, it's just the decision making at times.
Like you said, it's how he plays. For me, it's fine in the role as 2nd string PG who you'd feel comfortable enough with to start.
