I would hope that he was smarter than that but NBA coaches are a stubborn lot.

FWIW Woody does that exact thing down in the ATL and that team is built for speed.

The Hawks have no vets for stabilization on their team. They had to give up a draft choice last year to get Anthony Johnson just for leadership.

Wonder what they pay JJ the big $ for?

Maybe they can trade Marvin for CP3 or D Will?

LOL.

And yes, we couldn't have expected a much better season than we've gotten at this point. I wish Stuckey and Amir would have gotten more time early, but s**t happens. If they get time to gel and work through their jitters, I think we'll be set up well for the playoffs.

Ultimately, it's about putting together a streak at the right time. This team has the talent as currently constructed, they just need to put it all together a la 2003-2004 season (or Miami in 2005-2006).

they're not going to fire him because they don't want to "buy out" another coach, peroid.

I came to this conclusion when Dumars fired Saunders' assistant coaching staff and tried to hire TWO head coaches as Flip's assistants (only Porter signed, the other was O'Brien who coaches Indiana now) - that was an indirect admission that Joe saw flaws in the coaching (which isnt hard since this very forum picked those out during the season), but couldn't or wouldn't can Flip. IMO that is Davidson not wanting to pay out another coach after the larry brown fiasco.

The biggest thing Flip's got going for him now is familiarity. The players are used to him now and after a lot of growing pains, some kinks have been worked out. After Dumars forced Flip's hand on numerous occasions, he learned that he has to play the youngin's if he wants to keep his job. I don't know much about his relationship with Sheed, but at least we're not hearing about it anymore. Getting players to play in a new system every couple years is even harder than having them play with new players. And like it was mentioned before - there aren't any prime candidates out there to replace him anymore. If McMillan were available, that would be worth it, but not with the current crop of has-beens and unprovens.

Anyway, to get back to the point of this thread, I agree. It's been about as good as can be hoped for so far this season. It's amazing that the Pistons' big 4 have been so durable throughout the years.

you have to wonder though do we even want a new coach knowing our players well go through the whole respect thing again with any coach not named par riley or phil jackson. Our players have a sense of entitlement they put themselves above the coach to often and honestly thats not a bad thing its just the piston way its that mentality the either screws us or brings the ship to detroit.

Whether we like to admit it or not, Flip is relatively *likeable*.

But both are better coaches than Flip! Flip is the master at winning 50 games a season, but when playoff time comes, Flip sucks monkey nails.

Don't knock it until you've tried it. The abrasive quality of monkey nails destroys 10% more plaque than brushing alone.
