does this make us a better team?

Post#1 » by arkuo » Mon Feb 11, 2008 8:56 am

like others said, which i also agreed.. josh' stats are better but it doesnt necessarily mean that he became a better player... he isnt the josh howard that used to play defense in his 1st couple of years in the league... just in my opinion, josh isnt enough to be this team's 2nd star.... as each game passes by, it seems more and more than howard is leaning towards shooting more and more... not only that, the team in itself is becoming more of a jumpshooting team.. like one poster said, we would live and die by it.. and you cant deny that if JET cant bail us out on games with his offense, dirk and josh would just take perimeter jump shots..

if dallas were willing to deal josh howard, and that is a big IF, would you guys do this trade?

dallas gives- josh, JET, george
dallas gets- j-rich, gerald wallace

charlotte gives- j-rich, gerald wallace
charlotte gets- josh, JET, george

mavs...
C- dampier / diop
PF- dirk / bass
SF- wallace / stack
SG- j-rich / jones
PG- harris / barea

trading josh would be better than dealing devin... devin's younger and fills a role that is harder to fill than a wing man... both j-rich and wallace have the ability to drive to the hole.. i dont watch charlotte games this year, but slashing to the rim is what these boys made a name for themselves... with harris, j-rich and wallace all driving the lanes, this leaves dirk the privilege to hang out in the perimeter for wide open jumpers... not to mention those 2 wingmen have the ability to shoot the 3 too....

Well, those are two players that would temp me to trade Harris for Kidd, but I would still have to think long and hard before agreeing to that simply because JRich is a streak shooter and we would haev a collection of people who can hit a 3 (Dirk, Wallace, Rich, Kidd/Harris, Stack) but not I would rely on if we needed them. Personally, I would try to change Rich with Miller, but it's still a thought.

i just checked and dallas makes out pretty well in this trade... both j-rich and wallace are still younger than josh... so this makes dallas even younger...

JES12, i too would be curious how that lineup would fare with kidd running the point...

You know, after longer thought, I would do that trade as a Harris/Richardson/Wallace combo would all be 2 way players and we do get rid of the defensive liability of Terry while increasing his height.

I would try to send money to buy out George to resign him, if they would.

very true.... avery need not swap terry in for offense and jones, hassell, george et al for defense... he could have these boys on the floor and eat up playing time while doing good on both ends.. just dont know how charlotte feels on this trade... but we send josh howard back to his hometown, so maybe it might work both ways....

I don't think the Mavs brass would switch out Josh in the middle of the season, but I do think this is a win-win type trade that should be revisited in the offseason if the Mavs don't win a title this year!

Charlotte gets veteran players who know how to play at a high level. We get a switch out of talent that can eat up more minutes making quite a few more of the players we have expendible. It also solidifies our starter minutes. I've never liked that JET plays more minutes than most of our starters coming off the bench and Stack plays more minutes than our starting C and SG.

I want a follow up trade for Stack to be sent somewhere with filler to get a younger 6th man. With JET and Stack out off the team and JHo's production more than adequately filled, and a training camp and full season under our belt, things look brighter next year, not that they don't look bright now, this is all depentant on the Mavs not winning it all. I don't care if they get to the 7th game of the finals, they will at that point need to be shaken up (they kindof need to be shaken up now, too much consistency and they become the Kings and Jazz of old).

I love the handle. Given the Seinfeld love on this board, I will amuse with the characters that use this

That trade should hold some interest, even if it means trading Josh. I would not imagine Richardson to be the ideal SG for this team, but he and wallace I think would more than compensate for the Howard loss. It is fairly even. I think the next question is the defensive ability of these guys to stop a skilled 2 or 3.

word.

but i would probably do that.
i mean, i love howard and his style of play, but wallace is a more athletic player and his style is similar to j-ho's.
plus we get a big 2-guard with shooting ability and great jumping ability.

I'd do it without a doubt, it'd be a tough pill to swallow though. Losing Josh is like losing a son.

It would make the Mavs a better team, but we wouldnt propose it, and Charlotte wouldnt accept it even if we did.

I dunno with Jordan in charge. Anything could happen...
If we could just close games with Luka, Kyrie, Green, Maxi, and Wood that'd be great...

Josh Howard is a beast.....but he can only be shined if he part with a true point guard which you guys don't have.....

Harris - SG
JET - SG

After seeing this week in Mavs history, a big shake up like this is needed. I still think Cha will pass.

are you sure when you are without Harris and Stack and Damp?
3 key players missed time due to injury and the results of this past week tell the true story?

it may be that DAL needs better backups but I'm not sure it means wholesale changes are needed...
