he wasn't known as a great 3pt shooter, but he was known as a shooter. he shot extremely well in the summerleague immediately after we drafted him, and he has always been able to light it up in practice/shoot-around, he just hadn't really been able to get his shots to fall in game-time situations (even when wide open)
Well, he only took 12 three pointers his entire rookie season, so he never really tried to get it to fall.
The interesting thing about him, is that he was asked to change his role with the team (he played mostly PF his rookie year) and he was able to adjust quite well to what the coaching staff asked him to do. Not a lot of players in this league can go from playing PF and mainly being an energy guy one year, to playing starting SG the next year, and being asked to be one of our main three point threats.
I think that, more than anything, is what separates a guy like Klieza from a guy like Korver. Sure Korver is a much better shooter, but Klieza provides the versitilty that allows him to play three positions very effectively, and be much more than a one diminsonal shooter.

Kleiza is a SF who you can throw out at PF in a small lineup. Sure you can put him in at SG, but he won't be too effective as he doesn't have a post game and he's too slow to cover SGs. But to say he can play 3 positions effectively is stretching it a bit.
And at this point, Kleiza isn't much more than a one dimensional shooter. He occasionally drives to the basket (more now than before, to his credit), but that's only after the defense is already on it's toes. Kleiza definitely has more potential, but there probably isn't a playoff team in the league that would rather have Kleiza over Korver.

Maybe, but he is more capable of playing three positions than anyone else on our team except Eddie. And certainly more than Korver ever would be able to.

Funny, I was thinking the same thing about Korver.

If that's what you were thinking, you're 100% right. He is a SF. He can play some PF when teams go small though, same with Kleiza. The surprising thing though is it seems he's played mostly SG in Utah. But my guess is that he's only able to do it because he's in a system that plays heavily to his strengths and has guys that can cover for his shortcomings defensively. And the same thing with Kleiza though. Having Martin and Camby back there defensively allows him to play other positions semi decently.

Sure he can more than Korver, but only by a slight margin. The only advantage he has defensively is his weight against PF. At SG/SF he's as good as Korver at best. Laterally (staying in front of their man) they're about equal, but in ball denial and help defense, Korver blows Kleiza out of the water.
