maybe, but Shaq has hip, leg and foot problems. My guess is that no matter how could of a "jumper" he had, he would of still had issues down there in Miami and may still have issues in Phoenix.
I understand what you're saying, but with a guy like Dwight, you should really want him to work on tightening the screw down low. A player that can stop offense cold and can break through defenses in the post is considered a dominate force and aren't as prevalent as big shooters who are a dime a dozen and more. You're basically asking Dwight to become LaMarcus Aldridge when you ask him to step out more.

I say forget the jumpshot too. The thing that concerns me is his lack of variety in the post. He certainly is better than all his previous years but he still never pump fakes or anything special in the post. He just rams his shoulder into the guys chest and does a hook shot. Ocassionally he does that quick spin using his back to shield the defender and he gets all the way to the basket. Needs to do more of that, and try a fake once in a while.
This is also why he should get the ball more. The more he gets it the better he will get.
The free throw shooting is wierd. He can go for 5 straight and then miss 4 then go 1/2 for the rest of his trips. He is still at 59%, which is where he was the past 2 seasons. This year instead of going 1/2 the whole game now he goes on streaks. Perhaps this is a sign of getting better, lol.
In the end, I can't wait to see him at 25. He is great now, he'll be phenomenal in some time.

First of all Dwight needs to improve his FT shooting. He needs to consistently hit at above 70%. That alone will open up things for him as well as for the team.
Second of all, he needs to improve on his post-game. He only has a hook shot (which I think is a pretty cute and effective one) but he needs to learn more moves.
Third of all, he needs to learn how to pass from double or triple teams.
And the Jumpshot is also crucial, but it's not as crucial as his FT shooting or post-up moves.
If he can improve his offensive game, not only will he be one of the best if not the best big man in the NBA ever, he'll also make the team 100x better. We'll get a lot of open shots and easy layups all night.

No.
His release is still too low.
Bad habit that should have been addressed many years ago.
Basketball is driven by three principles:
1) Movement 2) Application of fundamentals 3) Predictability

jumpshot is not "crucial" at all IMO...not at all...maybe eventually being able to bank it in off the baseline, but his hook and his drop need the work really...with those he can take the guy left or right after he faces them up and he can complete.
1) Dribbling/Controlling the ball
2) Passing
3) FT's
4) Touch
5) Utilizing proper maneuver against defense

Dwight needs to work on his shot, his handles, and his passing. People who say, well he shouldn't worry about his shot now, and just rebound and play defense are what I call Van Gundy apoligists. He should be working on all aspects of his game which he is. His shot is a lot better then it was last year, so is his passing and his handles. Remember last year he was turning it over a ridiculous amount. He still does it too much, but he's improving.

Dwight cannot become a god, there is no way that he can dominate from all over and have a solid outside game, you are going to have to pick your poison...until you play basketball you cannot really grasp how hard it is to be 7', athletic, the weight of the world on you back and being asked to do something you dont normally do and dont have to finesse to do...
shooting is THE HARDEST thing to master in basketball...

I disagree, it's MUCH harder to play defense, rebound, and play in the paint. It's not even compairable. Mabye I think that way because I played center, not really sure. But the muscle endurance it takes to battle down low is substantial. People think, wow he's so strong but he also has a lot of endurance to continue to play a game of leverage. It's easy for a little guard to shoot who has to do nothing but run from 3 point line to 3 point line. However it's not impossible for Dwight to do those things and develop a solid 15 footer. He doesn't have to be 95 percent with it or anything but if he can hit it enough to make the defense honor it then he can get to the basket a lot easier.

well i know you disagree, and you are welcome to that opinion, but years of play and coaching experience will refute that opinion immediately...Everyone involved with basketball in some fashion will tell you that the shot is THE HARDEST thing to do...and converting a non-shooter into a shooter is even harder...

Were you a big or a small? Because obviously a small would think that. Because shooting IS the hardest thing they are asked to do. I know for a fact it's harder to shoot after boxing out a 270 pound dude then it is just from running from 3 point line to 3 point line.
