It looks like another big name is on the move. I'm a little shocked that Dallas would do this (Devin Harris and Jerry Stackhouse) and it seems like a great deal for NJ.

We still have 8 days until the trade deadline... does this help increase Miller's value???

Who's playing better ball this year? Kidd or Miller?

Who has the better contract? Kidd or Miller?

That being the case, I can't blame Ed for holding onto Andre (for now) rather than just dumping him for expirings a late pick.

I mentioned Denver and Cleveland as being teams that might make a play for Miller over the next 8 days but I think Atlanta and Orlando might also be a factor.

Cuban got p0wned. Horrible trade in my opinion. Their bench just got emptied and harris will be clearly better than Kidd in 2 years or less.

Dallas should have just kept Nash. I still believe Nash, Dirk, and J. Howard could have won a title.

Nobody knew at that time that Nash pans out in Phoenix. Cuban speculated and at that time I supported his decisions. Now, it haunts them obviously.

There are some rumours that the Nets will buy out Stackhouse who would return back to Dallas one month later. Besides there should be also coming another deal like Antoine Wright for a second-rounder. If those rumours are true, the Mavericks did alright and take a big risk in their venture to the championship.

I don't believe that Devin Harris will ever be better than a healthy Jason Kidd. Devin Harris is a scorer playing the PG spot. Those kinds of players are all over the place.

All this trade does is make Cuban look like even more of a clown for letting Nash walk because he didn't want to pay him the extra year due to age concerns. Not only has Nash been worth the extra year, his contract now has him as an underpaid player.

Good trade for both teams. NJ wasn't going anywhere so they replace Kidd with a good young point guard and Dallas gets another star next to Dirk and Josh Howard.

Good deal for NJ.

NJ gets rid of Kidd, who was going know where with that team.

They shave around 12 million in salary for next season.

Receive a good young PG in Harris, and a SG with some potential in Ager.

Not to mention a 2008 draft first round pick and probably a 2010 first round pick.

Salary dump, picks, and young players. Good start for a rebuild with the Nets

the west is just ridiculous, this is like the cold war with everyone building up their arsenal.

at least we know in 3 years when all these players on the west coast power houses have fallen off, iguodala will be in his prime and LWill and Thad should still be on their way up.... maybe?

why would you say it increases his value? i'm not necessarily disagreeing i'm just curious, hadn't given it that much thought.

my gut reaction would be to say it actually decreases his value. i think now there is a much more clear delineation between truly elite teams and teams that have little chance this year (elite being: la, dallas, phoenix, san antonio, boston, detroit). there are very few teams on the next tier (i'd say only: new orleans, utah, orlando, cleveland) and i'd think these would be the only ones willing to make a move to improve that involves mortgaging their future (ie, cap space, young players, draft picks). of these, only orlando and cleveland might be able to use miller. orlando doesn't seem to want miller, and cleveland doesn't seem to have what we want.

maybe there's something i'm not considering but for some reason i don't see miller being moved now.

Just from teams who are panicking to make the playoffs after years of sucking (like Atlanta for example) and teams that think he might be the player that gets them over the hump (Denver, LA, possibly even Washington if you think about it).

I definitely would not give him up for peanuts anymore, however, if the deal isn't good I'm content with keeping him till next year.

i see what you're saying about denver, but in addition to having no chance in the playoffs this year (IMO, obviously), again i don't think they have anything we want.

and i doubt the wizards or hawks would make a move for miller at this point. the wizards still have arenas, and the hawks i think are much too far away at this point to give up the future building blocks that we would want for miller.

although i sincerely hope i'm wrong and they offer us childress.

With the Nets trading Kidd and deciding to rebuild, I think the Sixers might actually back into the playoffs.

I don't think this is a good trade for the Mavs. The weakness of the Mavs in the playoffs was that they did not have any proven inside post scorers. They should have went after Jermaine O'Neal or even Eddy Curry. They didn't lose the last two playoffs because of poor PG play. Also, they lose their clutch shooter (Stackhouse) and their young shotblocker (Diop).

Not a good trade for the Mavs. Good return for Kidd for the Nets.

Now, let's see what the Spurs and Denver do.

Have to admit I didn't think there was any chance a 2 team deal was going to worked out with Dallas/NJ for Kidd. I didn't see anything on Dallas that NJ would think was fair value for Kidd (not that I think Kidd is that great anymore, but his perceived value is still very high in the league). Of course, when this rumor originally came up, Dallas was saying Dirk, Howard and Harris were untouchable. Including Harris obviously give NJ something useful back in the deal. Once again, I think this just shows big names don't command much in return theses days.

I actually think both teams lose in this deal (I give NJ a slightly higher mark right now though). I think Dallas traded away too much depth to get a player who's having a pretty poor season (shooting % is absolutely awful). I think NJ got mostly trash, but losing Kidd's contract and getitng a young talented PG I guess are positives. If NJ does in fact buyout Stack and he re-joins the Mavs in a month, then I like the deal a lot more for Dallas than I do today. Stack is still a very valuable player off the bench...especially in the playoffs.
