OT: Kidd to the Mavs

Post#1 » by B Calrissian » Wed Feb 13, 2008 7:51 pm

The Nets agree to trade All-Star point guard Jason Kidd and Malik Allen to the Mavericks for Devin Harris, Jerry Stackhouse, Devean George, DeSagana Diop, two first-round picks and cash, sources tell Tony Mejia of CBSSports.com.

wow... decent deal for dallas. now they have a pass first pg and they can rely more on terry, dirk and howard to score. they should try to sign pj brown now to have some big men depth

decent deal for the nets as well. what are the contract of the (former) dallas players?

oh and does anyone think this trade raises our chances to sign Diop this summer?

That is the first thing I thought about after seeing the trade. I think it depends on how many minutes are given to Williams, Boone, Nenad, and Swift. If he doesn't get many minutes he has no reason to want to stay.

People (on the general board) are saying that Stackhouse will be bought out and will return to the Mavs after 30 days. Also Wright might be traded for a 2nd round pick.

I am not sure why it couldn't be added to the first deal. Yeah it is Antoine Wright. The first trade has the Mavs giving up a lot, so I guess the second one evens the value out a bit.

*I think that the Nets would have had to waive a player with the first deal. By doing the 2nd deal they get the roster spot they need and get a 2nd rounder.

NJ won this one. Harris is a very good young player, Diop and Sean Williams would look nice together in a 3 man rotation. They get 2 1st rd picks also.

Dallas gets thin and old. Not sure if I like it as much for them. perhaps if they can sign a PJ Brown or another vet 4/5

This doesn't get Dallas that much better in my eyes. Now it's Dampier and nobody at center for them. I guess it's interesting if they can re-sign Stackhouse in 30 days, but they are still terribly weak inside.

Since the Nets have now acquired Harris, how attainable do you think Marcus Williams is from them? I won't throw around any trade ideas, but Williams is making 1.18 this year, 1.26 next year, then a team option in 09-10 for 2 million

I think NJ got a great deal. Getting a young blue chipper like Harris (plus the picks) is a nice haul in exchange for an unhappy guy everyone in the league knew was going to be traded.

Having said that I think its a deal Dallas had to make. They need someone like Kidd if they want to be a contender right now.

What we're seeing in the West right now is absolutely insane...I've never seen anything like this. I dont remember ever seeing contenders (Phoenix and Dallas) and fringe-contenders (LAL) grabbing big names like Shaq, Kidd, and Gasol in back-to-back-to-back deals like this.

Who's next, SA? Who can they get? Carter? Artest? Miller?

Denver, Houston and Utah all need to respond to these deals. Keep the blockbusters coming!

The Nets just got better. Harris is one of the most underrated PGs in the game.

My thoughts exactly. Looks like a desperation move to me. Hope it works out for Dallas and I hope Diop gets pissed with no playing time in NJ. :)

I'm shocked by this one. Kidd is not worth that.

I think it was a necessary move for both sides. NJ needs to rebuild and got a nice piece in Harris and the picks. I think Diop should help, but I'm not sure how much he'll play with the other front court moves they made. If they can get rid of Carter they'll be on their way.

Dallas gives up a young PG and C, but get one of the best PGs in the NBA for a package that doesn't cripple their core. Losing Diop hurts their depth up front, but they're likely to get a veteran front court player to give them 6 more fouls on Shaq and Duncan, which is all Dampier is now anyways. Kidd, Terry, Howard, and Dirk is a nice 1-4 and should help them match up with an uber-competitive Western division.

I think this does mean that either Kristic or Diop will very likely be available this offseason. I didn't see a lot of the game, but heard Kristic actually looked good defensively. I think they have different skill sets, but either one would help us upfront.

I think Dallas might still only be 4th best in the West. Spurs 1, Lakers 2, Phoenix 3 are all better than them IMO. Do you seriously trust Eric Dampier to be a fulltime C? Then you still got teams like New Orleans, Utah, and Denver not far behind.

Maybe they figured they had no shot at resigning Diop this summer?

So now where does Jermaine O'Neal go? Denver? Utah?

No point in that. Al isn't even seasoned yet; he is still trying to handle the double-teams.
