Yahoo! Sports:

Nets send Wright on side deal to Mavs

The Nets agreed in principle to deliver the All-Star point guard to the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday afternoon, a source close to the negotiations told Yahoo! Sports.

Kidd and Malik Allen will go to Dallas for 24-year-old point guard Devin Harris, Jerry Stackhouse, DeSagana Diop, Devean George, Maurice Ager, $3 million and two future No. 1 draft picks.

In a side deal, the Nets sent guard Antoine Wright to Dallas for a future second-round pick.

Yeah, they give up some depth with Diop and Stackhouse going to New Jersey. I'm not scared.

Wierd trade.

Kidd is still an All-Star and great floor general, but his awful 36% FG shooting really hurts the Mavs perimeter game. Antoine Wright is a decent back-up G/F. The Mavs also got a 6'10 PF in Allen but that's considered undersized in the West. The Mavs now have a small window to win now. I don't think it's still enough.

JKidd is the one Gaurd that Fish can actually defend...

I think we match up with the Mavs better now...

If it wasn't already, now the west has to be the most talented/competitive conference ever.

Kidd is at his best when he has an athletic big man and swing men who can score off his alley oops and run the fast break with him. The guy benifitting most from the Kidd trade on Dallas could be Josh Howard and Dirk's efficiency will get no better with this.

Didn't they lose their best penetrating guard in the trade? Teams can double Dirk as much as they want to now and good luck putting Dirk on Gasol/Duncan/AMare in the playoffs.

I think the Nets' will make the playoffs w/ this move, funny as it sounds.

They get a better scoring PG in my opinion, a nice bench scorer in Stack, and they get a nice defensive big man in Diop....

They also save 13 million on cap space because Stack, D George, Diop are all expiring..... Awesome deal for them, now if they could only dump Vince they'd be set

As for the Mav's they lose, a valuable big man in Diop, for guarding the likes of Shaq and Bynum. The lose their most clutch scorer in recent history in Stack--even if he has slowed more this year.....And their was a report on CBS that in also included two 1st rders that must be a misprint I would hope......

I read your guys posts about A wright in a side deal to the Mavs and Stackhouse possibly re signing but even so I don't think Jerry goes back if they get Wright...... I guess Mark is rolling the dice like Kerr and going /w it and then maybe looking dwn the road in 2 yrs when Kidd's contract would come off the books, possibly making a run at a free agent....and maybe signing Kidd to a lesser deal......

Nothing to really worry about, guys. Let me quote myself from GB thread:

Morten Jensen wrote:
C Erick Dampier/Juwan Howard
F Dirk Nowitzki/Brandon Bass
F Josh Howard/Trenton Hassell
G Eddie Jones/Jason Terry
G Jason Kidd/Darrell Armstrong

Damn..

Excuse me, but did you mean: damn, what a team with depth consisting of undersized/washed up has-beens in Juwan, Hassell, EJ and Armstrong?

Don't get me wrong: as a fan I love to see such interesting trades (and teams panicking because of Gasol trade ;-)), so I'm glad it's happening right now. Yet similarly to Shaq-to-Suns deal, overall advantage from the deal for our opponents is at least questionable, our Western rivals are taking a huge gamble on aging player, and if there were any benefits at all, they would occur only in short run. Still Lakers were the only team able to get a deal which undoubtedly makes them better, both in short and long term. :-)

BTW, I remember Mavs fans enjoying Shaq trade and saying that while due to Diesel's presence Phoenix improved vs. Lakers/Spurs, they got worse vs. Dallas (Rockets fans were saying the same, though from different reasons). Now it's Diop-less Dallas which got worse vs. teams with dominant bigs - Spurs, Lakers, Rockets, Suns - so the whole trade is even more questionable than in case of Phoenix. Whom are they afraid of if not for those 4 teams that felt compelled to get Kidd - Hornets? Blazers?

*

Forgot to add that I love the deal from Nets' standpoint: Thorn is really one of the best GMs in the business.

While this extra deal for A. Wright makes it slightly better for the Mavs: but only slightly since Wright is a career underachiever. Anyway, I can't wait to see Dampier fouling out in 10 mins trying to guard our bigs and then Gasol/Bynum posting up with ease much smaller Bass and Dirk all day long...

*

I'll also add that days when Kidd was efficient Kobe defender are long gone... :D

I think Kidd makes them worse really. I mean i was more "afraid" of the speedy Devin Harris but now they just have an aging point guard who can't shoot.

May want to give Kidd a little more credit than that.

I think this is a win win trade for both teams. Dallas gets a leader who doesn't choke every time playoffs arrives and NJ gets a lot of youth and draft picks to start their rebuilding process. I wish we can get Stackhouse if he is bought out though. To me, losing him should have been the deal breaker for Dallas because he is a very big piece of their rotation and they don't get a replacement for him in the trade.
