Mavs' size matters as teams out West grow

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Mon Feb 11, 2008 3:39 am

Had Mavericks center DeSagana Diop felt the need to dust off his luggage, stunning trades the past two weeks that fortified frontcourts in Los Angeles and Phoenix convinced him his suitcases are safe in the attic.

"All those trade rumors I was hearing, I don't think it's going to happen now," said Diop, whose name has been part of various trade scenarios. "Look at all the teams. I mean every team has a big man now."

The Western Conference has grown considerably beyond Tim Duncan in San Antonio and Yao Ming in Houston. The Lakers added 7-footer Pau Gasol to emerging center Andrew Bynum, who's out with a knee injury.

And Shaquille O'Neal (when healthy) brings massive clout alongside dunk artist Amar

Size always matters, at least that is what I have been told.

The mavs are going to be bigger come playoffs cause Fazekas will come on after the all star game and show what he has to offer giving us another scoring threat inside and another 6 fouls to use on those now supposedly bigger teams. I actually hope teams go big against us that would allow us to do some stuff we haven't been able to do in the small ball world we seem to be trapped in.
() = Small Ball Duty
Damp Diop Dirk (Bass) Faz (Howard)
Dirk Bass Fazekas Howard
Howard Bass George
Stack Jet Hassel Jones Ager
Harris JJ Jet

Seems to me our 4 and 5 is our strongest positions depth wise. If Jones and Hassel play in the playoffs we will lose in the first round.
Hassel Jones and Ager don't suit up the rest of the year if I'm the coach unless we suffer an injury. Devin and JJ split time so that JJ is playing against 2nd string PG's cause he's weak against bigger starter quality PG's. Fazekas may be something we can develop to use as trade bait in the off season or if he starts to develop and show potential he may actually be a keeper.

Bass is not getting enough burn to develop. Dirk Damp and Diop burn the most mins in the playoffs with Bass and Faz following that up. If Faz can do the job at the backup 4 and 5 then Bass can play more at the 3 allowing us to use Howard as a 2 against the 2's like Kobe and of course Harris will be the 1. George and Jet get backup mins behind Howard Harris and Bass with Jet getting time at PG mostly and less so if JJ can be a spark plug here and there. Jet is really becoming less needed due to several reasons and we really need to see what we can get for him in a trade while he still has value.

Yeah, that's what she said LOL!
If we could just close games with Luka, Kyrie, Green, Maxi, and Wood that'd be great...

I bet Kurt Thomas gets bought out and finds his way to Dallas.

Why would SEA buy him out? He's 9 million off the books at the end of the year, and he's still a great contributer and heady veteran presence in the lockerroom.
