OT ~ Players who are bought out

Post#1 » by thebossman » Wed Feb 13, 2008 10:49 pm

With stackhouse going to be bought out right away:

The Nets are expected to buy out Stackhouse's contract immediately, which could enable him to re-sign with Dallas if he waits 30 days.

"I feel great. I get 30 days to rest, then I'll be right back," Stackhouse said. "I ain't going nowhere."

ESPN

Is he allowed to attend Dallas' practices and use there training facilities and staff during that 30 day period?

If so he would be resting for 30 days, and still not miss a beat when he comes back. [/url]

I believe he can do everything you mentioned except practice WITH THE TEAM, I remember Alonzo Mourning staying in Florida to work out while he was on his buyout period from Toronto.

I'm sure he can train and work with a Maverick coach or trainer or something.

what if you get traded and the team buys you out because ur an expiring contract and they dont like you. Why should you have to wait 1 year to go back to where you already have a home especially if they still want you.

They did the rule cuz of Gary Payton he was traded to atlanta from Boston for Antoine Walker, then told Atlanta he WILL NOT PLAY for them (this was before teams could suspend players without pay) so Atlanta was forced to buy him out. He then a few days later signed with Boston so essentially boston got walker and payton for free.

Why?

I understand a 30 day "cooling off" period, but I fail to see why it should be any longer.
