Diop for the MLE?

Post#1 » by Komodo » Thu Feb 14, 2008 1:04 am

Diop would be a GREAT fit here. He'd provide muscle, shot-blocking, defense, rebounding, etc., and he's still only 25-26. Should note he's also 7' and 280 lbs.

I'd have no problem throwing out entire MLE at him, then we'd be free to trade Rasho, etc. for another star.

What do you think?

He's not getting as many minutes as last season, but he's shown to be an adequate enforcer/rebounder/shot-blocker.

Would the MLE be enough?

This would also allow us to package Humphries in some sort of deal. As it is, he's fallen out of the rotation. Our third big off the bench should be a legit 5 because both Bosh and Bargnani are 4's, and Diop in much larger than Hump.

i like diop. he's a big body, grabs boards, blocks shots, shoots a high percentage.

The entire MLE? I think that would be more than enough. Combined with the promise of decent minutes I don't think there's too many teams that would be offering him more. I'm of the mind that Rasho's 9M expiring is definitely going to get moved, so having Diop to back up Bosh and Bargs would be a nice change of pace. Diop's scoring is a touch underrated too, IMO - it's not great, but given some touches he's shown a decent ability to get some points on the board. I think he'd be a very nice fit here, assuming what the team wants is a rebounding, shot blocking, defensively minded back-up.

It might not even take the whole MLE.

 rasho and joey/juan and/or hump is not getting the raptors a star..
Diop would be a great pick up for the raptors however, i think of a rasho/hump fusion to a degree with diop

You misunderstand. His high might be 10, but he's also been pretty consistent in being able to drop 8 or 10 in 20 odd minutes on excellent percentages when he actually sees the ball. He's not a scoring threat by any stretch, but he scores well enough that he's not quite the liability some people make him out to be, especially not on a team that scores as well as the Raps. Since he'd be backing up I'd be perfectly happy with his standard 6 and 8 with a couple of blocks.

I'll just refer you to the Gasol trade and gently remind you of the value of expiring contracts in todays NBA. Rasho and some parts could go a long way. Nuff said.

Next year Rasho's expiring will have solid trade value, and could be part of a package for an overpaid, borderline star player (someone like AK47).
I'd like to see Diop on this team - he could bring some much needed rebounding and shot-blocking off the bench, and he's still pretty young. I would sign him in the off season if possible, or try to trade for him right now.

do you really think that any combination of rasho/joey/juan/hump would get us a true impact player or a player on the verge of becoming a star...for example iggy or or even richard jefferson?

He is currently in his 7th season in the league, and is having his best scoring season yet, at 3.1 ppg. The guy cannot score, period. But he can rebound and block shots, so I'd still like him on the raps.

expirings ie rasho + garbo, our 1st round pick & future picks? that pretty much is the package that got gasol. let's hope there's a nice 2 or 3 available (though ap & delfino are reasonably nice.

and diop for the mle i could accept. that's kinda what i would have anticipated him signing for with the mavs and he was a nice fit with dirk so should mix in well with our front line.
do you guys think the nets are gonna let him go?

and in regards to this trade, if they could move vc or rj for a nice front court player + picks they're shaping up to be real good in the future.

What I said was Rasho plus pieces. It would likely take a Delfino, or a Moon, plus Rasho (in the offseason naturally) to make a solid foundation for a trade. When we're talking offseason guys like Juan don't matter any more because they're gone. Rasho isn't all that likely to move before the deadline though.
He is currently in his 7th season in the league, and is having his best scoring season yet, at 3.1 ppg. The guy cannot score, period. But he can rebound and block shots, so I'd still like him on the raps.

And he shoots 58% or whatever and doesn't take bad shots. Any decent PG could help him to 6 or 8ppg in 25 minutes, just like he scores in Dallas now in those odd games where he gets more than one or two touches. Like I said - no scoring dynamo, but you can count on him for certain sorts of in close stuff alongside the obvious put-backs off of ORebs. Boards and blocks are obviously his forte though, no doubt. And, like you, I'm just fine with that.

i would assume NJ will re-sign him since they generally lack a front-court

Yeah, I agree. He would look good with the Raps though.
