Harris is a good player but not much of a true PG. He's really more of a combo guard/small SG.

Stackhouse evidently has told people he's going to be bought out and go back to the Mavs (has to wait 30 days to re-sign with them)

Kidd had to go, and the Nets got a lot back in return, but the key will be whether Harris can run an offense. He's never had to do that in Dallas -- the mavs system is very much based on ISOs and 1-on-1 stuff -- that's why they get very few assists. But he is very quick and can get to the basket and is an excellent defender, so he should certainly help the club.

I'm not sure about that. The West is soooo stacked, but I think Kidd's a good fit for that Dallas team.

hey speedy your right and i'm right we both agree the west sooo stacked and Kidd will make Dallas better. It Just won't be enoegh for Dallas to aquire Kidd to put them over the hump. Now on the other hand if Dallas pulls something else out of thier clackers prior to trade deadline then i might be swayed. until then Jkidd's title dreams

With the New Jersey Nets poised to complete a blockbuster deal to send Jason Kidd back to Dallas on Wednesday night, Mavericks reserve forward Devean George has unexpectedly exercised his right to block the trade, according to NBA front-office sources. Sources close to the situation told ESPN.com that the teams verbally agreed to the deal earlier Wednesday and were preparing to submit the trade for league approval when George informed the Mavericks that he wouldn't consent to being included in the deal, which is his right based on a rare provision in his one-year contract.

I have to believe there is some way for them to work this out. Devean George only makes 2 million dollars. That isn't a huge barrier to overcome especially considering the Nets probably don't give a **** if we get him or not.

That 2 million dollars nulls the trade. Dallas needs to find other players to fill in that and it might look like this trade may fall through.

I don't see no drop in the Nets with this trade this season as they been playin .500 ball. But, I expect with the Kidd trade another trade involving Carter as they most likely would retool with all those expirings and draft pics.

Successful Trade Scenario
Congratulations on a successful trade.
Due to New Jersey and Dallas being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. New Jersey and Dallas had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

dallas fan here...

this isnt such a bad deal for dallas since stack will be bought out and will re-sign with dallas after 30 days...

so technically, the deal would be

harris + diop + ager + expiring (?) + picks and cash

for

kidd + wright + allen

not a bad deal from a dallas standpoint... the main question is how to come up with a replacement for george without touching hassell.. word is cuban will be willing to touch the keith van horn situation, sign him to a 1 year deal and make him an expiring contract.. could work both ways in my opinion...

I think that makes the most sense. In all honesty if the trade doesn't go through for you guys there is going to be a huge fallout from the media since everyone else in the West made a move. I think this trade just makes too much sense for both teams to kill over a 2 mil dollar contract. I would whatever happens it will drag on even though I am sure the NBA will do everything it can to keep it from hanging over the ASG.

why? marcus is the better prototypical point guard with better court vision than harris.

Oh please!!! HE'S A BUM!! I would waive him ><

Stop this non-sense conversations about him... let's stick to Kidd talks.

The Mavs played their "traded" players last night and I notice the Mavs have a game tonight. Whereas the Nets dumbly sat out Kidd, and the other two traded Nets players, and got crushed by the Raps.

Could it be, the Mavs suddenly realized they don't want the trade to unnecessarily leave their bench very short handed for these 2 games, and told George to hold up the trade until after the game.

If this is what the Mavs are playing, respect to them.

I disagree. It's disrespect. They're being selfish, what happens if George or Diop get hurt while playing? Shows the importance on their part to give us a fair deal. It would've made more sense to announce and agree to the deal after these last 2 games though, instead of it going somewhat public yesterday.

Kidd will play in the All-Star Game as a Net, then the deal will go down after the trade.

Sure, Juwan Howard will get more pt as a result for the Mavs, but I LOVE this trade for y'all. Once Carter is dealt, this will be a sleeper team in a couple of years.

Mavs fan here.

I have been trying to come up with trade possibilities and the best one out there is:

Kidd

for

Harris
Stack (buyout)
Hassell
Ager
$3 Million Dollars
2008 1st Round Pick
2010 1st Round Pick

The truth is there are no expirings in that offer. That might not be to your liking. But the truth was in other offerings, you were losing expirings to us. You don't gain nor do you lose expirings in this deal.

Anything else out there would have to do with using a third team like Minnesota. I am working on that.

Facts about Mavs in this deal:
If Eddie Jones is traded to a team that is not a contender, he will just retire.

I doubt George goes anywhere except onto the injured list

We don't see Malik Allen as a backup Center and most Mavs fans worry about losing Diop in other offers. The above offer doesn't include Diop.

We value a lot of our players more than others do

Harris is fast, can get to the hoop, but needs to be free of Jason Terry and Avery Johnson to mature and reach his potential. He is an average PG.

Ager's nickname is Brick. He recently completed an 0-11 shooting expidition. Thank you for taking him off our hands, our first round mistake nightmare.

Stack is a Mav through and through. We appreciate the buyout which of course the $3 Mill and the two 1st rounders assure us receiving

We have to make a trade at this point, if we don't the chemistry is destroyed. Not with George, but with Harris. Stack has spoken out against Harris and for Kidd albeit nicely he still spoke out. Too many fans want Kidd back in Dallas. Harris won't recover, he is way too sensitive.

The players fully understand George's POV. Early Bird Rights could get him a little bit more than he could get otherwise. He's a helluva player. can play 3 positions well. He's a glue guy and can hit threes. I don't fault him, I just hope this can work out.
If we could just close games with Luka, Kyrie, Green, Maxi, and Wood that'd be great...

Just as an update:

Ian Eagle (Nets play by play man) Just interviewed with WFAN. Here is his take on the situation.

Devean George is not concerned with going to the Nets. If he loses agrees to the trade the maximum he is allowed to earn next year is a 20% raise. All of the execs and agents are meeting to find a resolution.

Apparently the NBA is looking into the Stackhouse part of the deal as well. There is no way to guarantee ahead of time that he will be able to sign back with the Mavs.

KVH is a absolutely real option. If something cannot be worked out with Devean George, KVH may be signed and serve as an expiring deal. There is precedent for this as well (Aaron Mckie trade). As of now this is a last resort option because they don't want to spend a few million dollars on someone who isn't in the league or in anyway part of either org.

As of now he doesn't think there is anyway this trade gets reversed. As he said, "there are too many smart people working on this this trade should get done." Both parties seem to want to get the deal done and both teams in essence need to get this deal done because the Mavs realize their window is closing as a true contender.

So there you have it. I think this is truly a good trade for both teams, hopefully as Ian Eagle said, hopefully wisdom prevails and the deal gets done. I would love to be able to root for Jason Kidd to get to another championship and I would to have Devin Harris, some picks and expiring deals.

The interview will be archived here at some point today - www.wfan.com
