You guys too eh?

Getting Devin Harris out of the West is  in my book. Kidd, though I still respect him, just doesn't really "scare" me anymore. I think prime Devin Harris could be pretty scary though.

Glad he's not in the division/conference anymore. I just think the "improvement" on Dallas' end is marginal at best.

Agree completely.

What is Kidd going to add to this team? Their defense was fine, especially with Diop in the middle, their bench was solid with Stack coming out and Ager was a good young prospect.

I never thought Harris was great but he is definitely suitable for the NBA and a championship team. He isn't going to keep you from getting anywhere in the league.

Kidd gives you a couple of years of "mistake free" basketball, but he doesn't make them a better team. His shooting is only getting worse and last time I checked Dallas was fighting to get away from just running up and down the floor which is probably Kidd's best attribute. They have a good defensive back court with Kidd and Howard, but losing championship experience like Devean George doesn't help much either.

Just a really dumb trade.

IMO these are teams in the West that are better then Dallas.

^ New Orleans also > Dallas.

With this, you can expect the Spurs, Mavs and Suns to only be contenders, if that, for the next few years. The Jazz by then should be absolutely prime, and teams like Portland and New Orleans will join them among the leagues powerhouses.

Kidd deal blocked

Post#25 » by The Sheik » Thu Feb 14, 2008 2:35 am

With the New Jersey Nets poised to complete a blockbuster deal to send Jason Kidd back to Dallas on Wednesday night, Mavericks reserve forward Devean George has unexpectedly exercised his right to block the trade, according to NBA front-office sources. Sources close to the situation told ESPN.com that the teams verbally agreed to the deal earlier Wednesday and were preparing to submit the trade for league approval when George informed the Mavericks that he wouldn't consent to being included in the deal, which is his right based on a rare provision in his one-year contract.

I really think it's going to be a good trade for the Mavs for the short term, once the trade is finalized. Deveon George blocked the trade a few hours ago, so they have to rework the trade, but it shouldn't take much longer to finalize.

BTW, did you guys really think Dallas would give us trouble? I think they aren't designed for the playoffs, much less a seven game series. Now with Nowitzki, Howard, Terry and Kidd, they seem to be a much better team, IMO.

It is because he signed a one year contract this year.

I hope once I awake from my sleep, I read that the trade is at least official whether George decides to reconsider(cash) or they replace him with someone else. Why is stackhouse getting waved though? One of those terrible teams better scoop him up.

Cuban is providing NJ the cash to buyout Stackhouse, who intends to resign with the Mavs for the minimum after the required 30 day waiting period.

Just to clarify: the most cash any team can send in trade is $3M. So it's not like Cuban is going to pay all the freight on this if it happens. The Nets will be responsible for the remainder of the buyout.

I am not sure that they are MUCH better even in the short run. I think it'll be interesting to see how their record goes after getting Kidd vs. before they had Kidd.

I'll bet it's not much different.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

Kidd isn't much of an offensive threat himself anymore. It won't hurt that he has a low post guy to play next to to help him get some open shots, but even then he isn't much of a shooter. He will make them operate a bit better and find better shots for Dirk, Howard and Terry, but I don't think Kidd is at a place in his career where he is going to make a difference for a team that has to give up that much. Kidd isn't going to add 3 point shooting, and he can't get into the lane like Harris can.

Don't underestimate what having guys like DeSagana Diop and Devin Harris can do for you either. Diop is a legit 7 foot shot blocker and intimidator in the lane, he really covers up a lot for the defense of Dirk when he is in the game. He is also super athletic, he won them the series 2 season ago against the Spurs with his defense on Duncan.

Harris also gives up a legit scoring weapon and a great change of pace guy, he and Terry together give teams match up nightmares with their speed, Kidd won't do that as much.

P.S. Don't forget what Diop can do for your local economy...

I didnt understand what happened.

Could someone try to tell me what it means, in English?.

Thanks in advance.

"league rules dictate that players on a one-year contract -- but who also ended last season with the same team and are thus eligible for Early Bird or full Larry Bird free-agent rights at the end of the contract -- cannot be traded without their consent."
