i say this if and only if the jason kidd experiment fails in dallas...
kidd will be a free agent the summer of next season.. his humongous contract will be one FAT expiring... any chance this is a "safe" move done by the mavs management?
some names from the free agent class of 2009 include chris paul, mike bibby, ron artest, gilbert arenas, baron davis, deron williams, andrew bogut, rasheed wallace, elton brand, corey maggette and allen iverson...
a big bunch of those are point guards who im sure the mavs want their hands on....
we could definitely get some of those names if we wanted to with kidd's contract.. either through free agency or sign and trades in the middle of the season....
i really feel that this is a safe move done by cuban as kidd wouldnt be pinning the mavs down by his contract... if it doesnt work out next season, i could see something like kidd+fillers to sactown for bibby and artest...
C- dampier / fazekas
PF- dirk / bass
SF- artest / hassell
SG- howard / stack
PG- bibby / barea
puts us right back into contention.....

Gilbert says he's going to opt out after the end of the current season.
Dallas still won't be able to sign any of the names you've mentioned above unless they SNT.
Thanks to Dirk, Josh Howard, Eric Damper and Jason Terry this team is basically at a stand point for the next three seasons. We must rely on SNT's if we want any of the current or upcoming stars and most likely it's not going to happen consider we won't move Dirk or J-Ho.
Jason Kidd opens things up and gives us the best chance to win the championship. We can retain him after his contract is up and it's not likely he ever sees 20 million a year again.

Can't believe I'm going to say this, but Mark's not even that dumb, and Jason needs to accept the fact he's not going to make 20 million again.
I really see him receiving a extension that will pay him 13-15 million per/year. I'm perfectly fine with that, as I believe Jason will still be very productive as he ages, and he's the best option for us at this point.

Fair enough. To each their own. IMO, if Cuban is dumb enough to do this trade, he would be dumb enough to give a Shaq-like extention.HMFFL wrote:Can't believe I'm going to say this, but Mark's not even that dumb, and Jason needs to accept the fact he's not going to make 20 million again.

Even then, 37 YO! 13-15 mil? You KIDDing me? Players beyond 35 don't deserve more than MLE; I don't care if you are superman!

You do realize by not doing the trade we continue the path of failure. We have our hands tied with bad contracts that involve players that won't win us a ring. Jason Terry and Eric Dampier are the start of the problem!
Dirk and Josh Howard are really the only players to build around. Devin Harris obviously can be included here, but he's far from being a game changer like Jason Kidd, and I don't think your seeing the big picture.
If you want to fall short of the ring every year we stick with the current roster and not trade for Jason Kidd. I want to win! Adding Jason changes many aspects of the game and bring Jerry Stackhouse back would be an added bounce. Time is running out for us to become Champions.

See, the funny thing is, I saw a 28-11 (59 win pace) Dallas team with Harris in his 1st year starting as PG and 1st year avg more than 26 minutes. And that was with Avery "experimenting" and "pacing this team."
And a 6-6 team without him (lotto bound).
I see Dallas pulling a trade in the lowest part of the year (Harris injured).
I see Kidd doing nothing and only going downhill from here.
I see Kidd's team doing better without him.
I see us losing a piece that we need do defend the bigs in the west.
I see Chris Paul, Tony Parker, Daron Williams, and every other PG in the west dominating us.
I see us loding the piece that gave us an edge...and a player that has, in his short career, be one not afraid to step it up in the playoffs.
I see us losing in the 1st round again...this time it would not be an "upset."
I see us giving 3 draft picks and cash to do that.
What big picture are you talking about?

Was Parker an elite PG in the NBA last year? If your answer is "yes", then Harris is an elite PG right now. If your answer is "no", then we don't need an elite PG to win it all.dirkforpres wrote:What people arent realizing is that by the time Devin does become an elite guard in the NBA, Dirks game will be on the decline. Im anxious to see what happens when Kidd is leading this team down the court this summer now that ive thought about it for a few hours.

No, I dont think Parker has ever been elite in the NBA, he just has Duncan.
No, I dont think Harris is an elite player right now even though he has Dirk.
Yes, I do think one day Harris will be a perennial all star.
Yes, I think that Kidd gives us a better chance at winning a championship, since our championship window is closing fast anyways.

I can agree with everything except the 1st half of that last statement.dirkforpres wrote:No, I dont think Parker has ever been elite in the NBA, he just has Duncan.

Our window just shut from 5 +/- years to one year. If we don't win it this year, we are royally screwed!

That's where you're wrong. Jason Terry, Dirk, and Josh are going to be 35, 35, and 33 5 years from now. The window is about 3 +/-, and probably slanted to the minus side.

That's still quite a lot of money. Dirk, Jett, Josh, Damp and then Kidd all around 10-17 million a year. Don't see Cuban doing much more in the FA market after Kidd.
