Hawks interested in Carroll

Post#1 » by BeesWax » Thu Feb 14, 2008 2:36 pm

In the Observer it says that the hawks may be interested in Matt. Is there anything they have that you think the Cats might want that would work in a trade? I am fine with just moving the contract for now. Frees up more room to try to make a move this offseason.

I can't really think of anything we could get from the Hawks... I mean JJ, Horford, and Josh Smith are way too good, even Childress is probably too good, so they'd be getting Carroll for... a pick? Anthony Johnson? I have no idea.

I would take some expirings. If we really want to make a run with what we have Jamison would really help next year. If we could clear up 5 mill from the books we should be able to add Jamison and a backup point plus whatever guy we draft. Starting Felts Jrich Wallace Jamison and EO would be a heck of a group. Have duds Nazr Hollins Davidson a free agent pg and rookie off the bench, along with a healthy Morrison and hopegully healthy May.

Exactly. I would trade Carroll for expiring contract(s) and a second round pick. No defense playing chuckers without handles are a dime a dozen. Free up that 5 mil and get someone in here who can play defense on the perimeter.

Hammer is BYC and neither ATL nor us have the capspace to make up the difference.

According to both trade checkers on ESPN and here there are some options that might work.

Hawks have Lue, Lo, AJ, and Salim expiring. Probably would trade Shelden, possibly Zaza. Probably not Chil unless part of a bigger deal. Mixed emotions on Hawk's board but we need a shakeup.

Well spill it!

I tried a few but they either put ATL or us over the cap.

Edit:

I see the one you have on the Trade board and it DOES work (Sebzor's didn't):

Stoudimire/West/Childress for Hammer/McInnis.

Good luck getting Touche' to agree to the trade tho; I can't imagine any other team giving him the love we do. I'd also think ATL can get more than this for Chil.

This works

Anthony Johnson
Salim Stoudamire
Solomon Jones
Mario West

For

Carroll
McMinus

Mario West was released so they would have to sign him back and then trade him.

This trade kills 2 birds with 1 stone. We no longer get to see McMinus in a Cats uniform, and we clear out Matt Carroll's salary.

Carroll/Hollins for Williams/West/Stoudamire

Carroll/Mcinnis for Williams/West/Stoudamire

Carroll/Anderson for Williams/West Stoudamire

Carroll/Morrison for Childress/Williams/Stoudamire

Carroll/Morrison for Childress/Lue/West

These are the best ones I can come up with. And I would do any of them I think.

In some of these you can replace Williams with Childress or Lue.

Why would Atlanta trade Williams or Childress for Carroll? Especially now since they are trying to make the playoffs. I would think they would want Carroll to add to their team, and not bring him in to subtract from another area. And Childress and Williams could fetch a lot more than Matt Carroll. We're not getting Childress AND Williams for Carroll and Ammo. Carroll/Ammo for Childress is a possibility since Childress is a RFA after this season and ATL has to figure out what to do with Josh Smith.

Shelden Williams. He averages 11 minutes a game. The rumor is they are interested in Carroll. I assume because he can shoot and they are short on shooters right now. Williams is not unreasonable Chil may be a long shot but with Carroll his playing time would drop signnificantly.

Oh, Sheldon Williams. Well we're not getting both Sheldon and Childress for Carroll. ATL can do a lot better for Childress. But I can see a Carroll for Sheldon Williams if we can find a way to match up salaries.

Apologies jdm...I just wasn't thinking beyond Hammer. If we can think beyond "now" and if we really have a shot at Jamison I think I'd lean towards all expirings...Ammo/Hammer for Chil/Lue/West. After we renounced those guys and Harrington we'd be roughly 11-12 million under the cap.

Is McMinus tradeable? I thought guys that were signed to the vet minimum (NBA pays part odf the contract) were not tradeable?

I like Saleam and Sheldon for Hammer,
but would rather keep hammer here

I almost want us to acquire Shellhead just because I know how much it would make you loose your mind. It sure would provide some entertaining posts from you!!

Might as well bring in Dicky too - then I could join you!!

I want Chil.

Hmm, J-Chill would be pretty sweet. What does Sheldons potential look like? Anytime you can swap a small for a big you have to entertain it as long as it's reasonable talent.
