Kurt Thomas for Fran Vazquez?

There has been speculation that the Seattle Supersonics will either deal KT before the deadline or simply waive him outright to give the youngsters some run.

A question:

Is it possible under the CBA to trade KT for the rights to Fran Vazquez?

I am not sure how to gauge the salary cap ramifications. But it seems like a win-win for both teams. The SEATTLE supersonics get the rights to a lottery player or cap room if Fran stays in Spain. Orlando Magic gets a veteran back-up Pf/C to help Howard for a playoff run.

If buying out KT to gets more playing time for Petro/swift/Sene is likely, why would Fran's contract be a bad option? He does not count against the cap now, and you are getting a highly skilled player in return without taking on numerous draft picks/salary.

I am all for more, I just am not sure how to structure a deal with a players undetermined rights. What is the actual value of Fran's contract? I do not understand what his contract is worth for trade value. Does it count against the cap as the rookie salary structure for the 2005 draft, or is his value determined once he actually is on a NBA roster?

I agree the SEATTLE supersonics may be able to get more from other teams. But I think Management will try to reward KT for his service by either buying him out or sending him to a contender for picks and cap space.

What I want for Kurt Thomas is a positive for the Sonics. As in someone who is going to show up for practice and as of right now that's not Fran.

listen, im not a Fran supporter I wish my team had never drafted the guy and I really dont care if he shows or not. But you dont know half of what you should to start basing opinions off of his stats...he's averaging horrible #'s because he's not getting any minutes, they say his game isnt suited for the euro league because he's a power player, basically all dunks, rebounds and blocks...

Pau Gasol just last week said that Fran was about as NBA ready as they come, he has the skill and the body...the only question is his mind set and the people he has surrounded himself with...

While i am in no way saying Seattle should do this deal, those stats are skewed. Fran will be a much better NBA player than Euro player, his game is tailor made for the NBA. Big numbers in the Euro leagues don't make you an NBA calliber player either, because the games are so different. Fran can play, but he will not be a star.

I dont think I did make it personal...it just sounds to me that you dont have all of the data needed to make an open claim...Fran might be the biggest global bust of all time...but I wont say anything until he's given some time and allowed to show what he can do over here...

You're right because Otis learned his lesson the first time in dealing with Seattle's new GM. Presti made Otis the laughing stock of the NBA with the exception of Isiah.

I was not really trying to suggest a straight swap as much as I was trying to ascertain the cash/trade value of Fran's rights in any deal.

The SEATTLE supersonics already have 6 picks in this year draft (2 first, 4 second) and while stock piling draft picks for trade purposes is never a bad idea, Fran's rights would be a good centerpiece to trade Kurt Thomas.

What kind of salary match/draft picks would be required for a fair deal?

Clearly, since we are a 3 seed and Seattle is also a 3 seed...in the draft lottery.

Orlando is plenty happy with Shard, as unlike Seattle, our goal is to win games and keep our team in our city.

All Presti has shown so far is luck with ping pong balls.

Frannie is not looking like a guy apt to make much impact. That he's still a no-show is of course-a minus. With ORL over cap--this deal can't happen.

Otherwise...rights to Vasquez are not a big trade chip.
