Ok, so how do we get to a championship caliber level?

It is obvious that we are not going to get a top 3 pick unless we are insanely lucky beyond comprehension. We have plenty of cap room to sign a big name free agent, but that alone won't get us to the championship level.

So what can we do to get to that level over the next few seasons? Do we have to strike gold with a draft pick? Do we just have to wait for our young guys to further develop? Do we need to make a blockbuster trade?

How do you see us getting to that championship level? We are a borderline playoff team right now.

There is currently such a huge hole at PF that I think adding a good/great player there will have a tremendously positive domino effect on all of the other players on the roster, so my focus would just be on doing that.

The youngsters have to get better and smart trades need to be made whenever possible, but as of right now I'd think the best chances of getting that stud big man we need come from that bit of cap room we have this summer (or next summer if it's not used this year).

EDIT: One other possibility I'd consider is that if Iggy can net a very good PF in a trade now, consider doing that and find a way to plug the SG position next summer with some combination of cap space/draft pick. Doing this is contingent on what kind of value he has and other factors though that I'm sure that GM Ed knows better than I do.

Well the next level isn't championship level in my opinion. We need to get to a constant ability to make the playoffs before we worry about being a championship contender. I don't think the guys on our team developing to there potential is good enough to win a championship. We need to make a blockbuster trade but we don't have the pieces to do so without destroying what we have. So the best way to go about it would be getting a top 3 draft pick. This will never happen because this team refuses to tank to get it done. So we will be stuck in years of mediocre play from our basketball team.

Yeah, replacing Green (A top 200 player) in the starting lineup with a top 20-30 player would have a huge impact. It would be like when Miller replaced Ollie in the lineup.

All the Sixers have to do is keep moving forward by:

1.draft better than they have over the last 10 years
2.remain patient
3.Do not try to buy a winning team by overpaying a free agent that doesn't fit like Josh Smith.
4.Continue the good development of their players, although this area could be improved because no one has yet developed past their initial perceived talent level. Iggy is not markedly better than anyone expected neither is Lou Will.

1) trade away Miller for expiring and young prospect
-> this is way better for our draft situation, this year AND next year
2) Give Iguodala a contract this summer that not exceeds the 45 million plateau. Otherwise let him walk
-> he's not a star player and giving him too much money will be a very bad thing for our future
3) We need to develop Lou Williams into a Leandro Barbosa roll, not thinking he will be a starting pg on a championship team
4) Keep devellopping Thad slowly
5) Try to get rid of Willie Green
6) Be very patient and lucky

1. Hope the East stays bad (Boston will be good for a few more years, but no one else is that scary 3 years from now except Orlando.)

2. Hope our 2nd level young players develop to valuable commodities (LWill, Carney, Smith) so that in 1-2 years we are in position to trade for a vet star without blowing up our core.

3. Draft or acquire a giant to have on our bench for when we play Orlando in the playoffs. Howard is going to be '90's Shaq in 2 years, and we need a huge body to throw in his way. otherwise, keep building around athletes.

4. Get to the Finals from the East may not be a impossible- but we will have to hope the Western Conference team is so beat up that we can steal that series.

we gotta hit that franchise big man somehow...hopefully itll be a young guy who can grow with our players...thats what kept us from being a championship level team with iverson and itll keep us from being one in the future

Trade Miller or AI or both in a package for T-Mac : The west is getting stacked and they have proven they can win without T-Mac maybe its time for a Team change for him.

Ibaka - might not start right away but like young think he would be rdy by mid season or so... Smith can fill in here plus maybe someone sign for 1 year deal till he is ready

I think, the best way to this is through development. Stars are not born overnight. And while you would like to sign a star. It doesn't ALWAYS happen.

I think the Youth movement(while maintaining enough cap) is a great move. As of right now, the only young players we have worth considering to keep are Thaddeus Young, Jason Smith, Louis Williams and to a very small extent Dalembert and Iguodala. We need to increase this number.

Sign more young players and keep Andre Miller for 1 more year to mentor these guys and have them improve along the way. One's thing for sure: The athletic ability of the team will improve.

At that point, you trade Andre Miller, who's likely playing a whole lot better with a whole lot more talent and is a 10 million expiring to another Memphis Grizzlies GM XD.

I think next year, without any legit off-season moves other than the draft, this team could be a 6th-5th seed team. That doesn't put us far off.

To put us truly at the championship contending level, simply have to get a dominant low post scoring PF.

Other than that, maybe a few changes, this team is definitly improving.
