hey guys Celtics fan here, just wondering what you guys think of Brandon Bass? Is he a career bench player or will he ever be a starter in the league?
And on the Kidd trade, if this trade happens I think it makes you the best in the west. I think its a good trade for both teams, Dallas needs to win now and Kidd will do that, NJ needs to deal kid and Harris is probably the best player they can get for him. I think a core of Dirk/Kidd/Howard will be enough to beat the Lakers/Spurs/Suns/Etc.

I think Bass is a career bench player. I don't think he could be a starter on a good conventional team as a PF. If he developed more range on his shot to allow him to shoot from the 3pt line, then he might be an interesting SF starter. But he is really too short to play big minutes as a PF.
I hate the Kidd trade, but I think it will happen. The Kidd of 5 years ago would have been great. But the Kidd of today is not that great. I think the Mavs are blinded by his resume. This trade likely kills off the Mavs contender status in the Dirk era. I suspect Dirk will be traded in the next two years if this trade goes through.

I normally jump on Mavs fans for overrating our players (i.e. Harris) but I think Bass can turn into something special, probably a poor man's Elton Brand at best. He just needs to be consistent and have the patience to work for better shots instead of interpreting 5-feet of space between him and his defender as a trick to keep him away from the basket rather than an opportunity to shoot jumpers.

I think Bass will have a career similar to Corliss Williamson so I guess that would be a career bench player. However, he will probably be more versatile and if he is able to sharpen some skills, I can see him working into a starting rotation. On the high side, he could become another Boozer. On the low side, another Mike Sweetney.

Bass is young and talented. He has the skills (can jump through the roof), its just a question of motivation. His mind can wander at times.

I dont ever see him being a starting PF, nor ever developing his game where you want him to start at SF. However, he could eventually be a contender for the 6th man award. He can play 3 positions depending on matchups and he's still 22/23 yeards old and has alot to improve on, espically finishing at rim. I'd like to keep him around as a Mav for a long time.

The first word that comes to mind when I think of Bass is overrated. I do think he is Dirk's best backup in his career, but that isnt saying much either. As far as the Kidd trade, im pretty anxious to see how it turns out. Hes a great player, and should improve our chances at least this year and next anyways.

What? I think the OP is talking about Brandon Bass. He can jump high enough to dunk, but don't mistake him for a Marion, Amare, Kenyon type jumper.scramm wrote:Bass is young and talented. He has the skills (can jump through the roof), its just a question of motivation. His mind can wander at times.
