Even Kenyon was having difficulties in guarding Lewis on the perimeter last night....not great match-ups for K-mart or Camby against the Magic...
Aside from the fact I didn't say any of that, I was referring to Camby's overall play in my post, not just that for this game.
I don't expect Camby to be able to guard to perimeter, but to not rotate out at all and semi-contest a jump shot? That's not acceptable, let alone an attribute of a DPOY.Lazy demeander and rubs off on everyone, but when he's blocking shots and they get out on the fast break and start a 14-2 run or something like that he's a crappy defender? Everyone has limitations in their game, sure I would like a center that was stronger in the paint and pushed people around, but there aren't that many in the league.
So 4 times a game he blocks a shot. Are you going to try to tell me that the opposing team only gets into the paint 4 times? So what happens every other time? When one of the guards or Kenyon doesn't strip opposing players in the paint, it usually results in a layup or dunk. Rarely do you see players taking bad shots in the paint because Camby doesn't try to impede their penetration by rotating in time. He'd rather trail the player and try to block the shot. Those are terrible defensive fundamentals.
Camby is a terrible man defender. Neither can he guard big men that play on the perimeter, nor can he guard big men with a post up game. The only thing he is good at is trailing shorter guys and blocking their shots.
Shot blockers are always the most overrated defenders in the league. Give me a big man that is fundamentally sound defensively and only goes for the blocks as a last resort.I don't think he is overrated, many people in the league know Camby one on one is not a great defender, but he can be excellent as a help defender.
The fact that he has even won DPOY makes him overrated. I almost always get opposing teams' announcers. Believe me he is overrated.Yes Nene and K-mart would be a better one on one defensive tandem providing Nene is healthy, but Nene wouldn't have had a much better time trying to defend the 3 ball against Orlando.
Nene gets out to shooters MUCH better than Camby does. You can argue how much better he does, but he definitely challenges shots much better.
LOL....Yes, I was the one that voted him as the DPOY....
It's your opinion...some people have high regard for Camby rebounding and trying to be a goaltender on a team that has poor defensive fundamentals... I am not saying Camby should have been the DPOY or not, but you make him out to be a Kwame Brown type of player and frankly he's been the Nuggets healthiest big and has contributed defensively whether you believe so or not. Camby is not the main reason this team struggles defensively....yes, I would like him to close out quicker...sure I would like to see him be tougher in the post, but dude is a string bean....a strong wind might blow him down.
Lets trade him and Najera to Miami for expirings of J Will and Ricky Davis. Then we can have Steven Hunter play and see how things are....
