CC, with your next post I have exactly 10,000 posts more than you and both our counts end on an even thousand. What are the odds for that? And what are the odds that this would happen to two musicians on an internet sports forum? j/k

14,000 posts... Scary. Am I officially a loser now? I need a drink.

Natalie Portman seems more up my alley for the settled down thing.

Congrats EE. You've hit 14k.

14k gold? That's the white gold type. I love white gold. Yellow gold is ughh to me.

And to any of you runners or weightlifters out there:

As a sprinter, I squat 210 lbs and do 5 sets of 5 reps. Is it OK? My coach keeps yelling at me that I am gonna hurt myself by doing heavy weights like that but I dont feel anything except the strain on my quads and the soreness the next day. Is my coach right or wrong? Because I read and do my research before I do something.

5'8", 155 lbs
I've lost 15 pounds since I've joined track on September and fitter than ever.

And I believe I am still finding what my strength base is because I've been using the weight room since November and I'm getting stronger everyday.

I can bench 120 right now on free weights.

And for squats, I use the Smith Machine, which is supposedly harder than the free weight.

And as for 5x5, I heard that is a powerlifting method that will help my power. As a sprinter, I need a lot of speed and power. As it is called, sprinting is a "pure power sport" so I dig the powerlifting method though my coach despises it since he is a long distance runner who has ran 16 Marathons.

well, you should be fine with that amount of weight. If you are looking for speed in the ways of sprinting its better to get long lean muscles and opposed to big muscles. It might not look cool in the gym.. but you are going to get more out of your goals if you go leaner. That is done by doing less weights and more reps and going slow on both motions ( up and down) All you are really doing now is adding bulk which is fine , but I dont think it will help you in the long run for sprinting/running.

Now, if you still want continue your current routine then I would just be sure you stretch good, obviously lift with your legs and not your back and one red flag is if you are lifting heavy weights and feel pressure ( uncomfortable pressure ) in your groin or your taint' ....then you are lifting too much and you could really screw your self up.

Also, machines are better for these types of exercises.

Unfortunately, no...I am trying to wrap up some job work before going to Montreal with a friend this holiday weekend.

Thanks for reminding me how I should be working on my future instead.

Hey, SB, you're almost the same size as me as when I was in high school! Unfortunately, I stopped working out after I graduated, and now I'm down to 145 and getting knocked all over the basketball court.

Tough to work out in the east coast if you don't have the scratch to pay for lofty gym memberships (100s a month).

Hey Phil, give me some advice. I've got a couple dumbbells, do push-ups (actually looking to buy the "Perfect Push-Up" thingy), but I'm stuck on working out the lower body, legs and your base at home. It's freezing outside so I'm not down with running or biking.

Any recommendations Phil?

Oh, and as a teen, I was absolutely smitten with Natalie Portman in The Professional, but after Star Wars, I stopped finding her attractive. I gained more respect for her as an actress in Closer and V for Vendetta, but the attraction never came back.

Kinda pretty to look at, but not in a sexual way. Maybe it's because her voice got real deep and she has the intimidating intellect courtesy of a Harvard degree. That probably sounded a little misogynistic, I apologize.

I normally ( these days ) use dumb-bells and a swiss ball. I am the kind of person who likes to get it done with first thing in the morning .. so I actually just roll out and go.

Dumbells are all you really need and if you use a swiss ball you can have countless workouts for upper and lower body. The trick is to change it up every couple weeks, so you dont plateu.

The perfect pushup is a good tool but I dont think you need it.

I do pushups with my dumbbells. But you can do the obvious curls...plus all kinds of tricks. Like lunges, squats ( with ball) Triceps.. you can bench press on the ball and you can do flys. The exercises are endless and the key is to focus on a routine.

Like you are going to work your upper body out on Mon, Wed, Fri. So you curls, pushups, ball presses...etc...and then you focus on lower body and your core on Tuesday and Thursday. With lunges, squats, and various core exercises for your lower back and abs.

My advice- get a ball. ( PM me and I will hook you up ;) ) and put together a routine like outlined above and then work it for 2 weeks and then keep changing it up.

Alot of people think they need gyms and outside facilities... but you can do so much with so little and get just as good of a workout.

If you saw her in Monk....you'd say otherwise.

You accept Paypal?

Hook it up, heck yeah. One thing though, where can I find good, reliable instructions for the different kinds of exercises, for both swiss ball and dumbbells? Google?

I just bought the "Perfect Push up" its no joke. I could bust out push ups in sets of 50, with the Perfect push up I get sore from 5 sets of 20. It also really works the upper chest.

yeah, it totally made sense to me when i watched the infomercial. It also gets pretty good reviews on the net. I've never had a problem with the wrists, but I like the idea of less wasted force and motion, especially since I'm generally a lazy bastard.

the perfect pushup is a good tool. It goes along the lines of... work smarter not harder.

Just dont go buying it to be a door stop ;)

Thanks Phil. So I should continue squatting that 210 or should I go up??
What I currently do is squat down slowly and then explode up so that way I work on my quick twitch muscles. That work too man??

Same with my bench press. Bring it down slow and explode up.

Who are you ?

Ki...rk with a long time time partner as a moon ?

Why moon ? Like Enrique Iglesias and his silver moon ! :D

I think I'll stay with my nickname till the doom day !
My name's Sasha( if using russian slang ) and Alex( if using yours ).
Combining them in one word with one common letter as two was a great idea - SashAlex... 8)

If I change, I'll keep at least Sasha or...nah ! SashAlex is way better than any other nickname I'd use.
