Miles?

Post#1 » by NateMustGo » Fri Feb 15, 2008 5:03 am

What's the word on Miles? With Jones down with injury and us in a slump why are we not showcasing him? I know he's not everyones favorite on the forums here but if and when it's time to trade him, I for one would like to see us get something out of him.

Heck as a fan I'm all for it, but I'm sure Miles has burned alot of bridges with Blazer management/ coaching which makes me think its unlikely.

The thing is, even if he came out and played well, teams would still be afraid to risk trading for Miles. I honestly hope that he's bought out or somehow traded so he doesn't bring his losing mentality to this team but unfortunately, he probably won't be traded before the deadline so I think it makes more sense to just buy him out at this point. Granted, he had talent before but I'm not convinced that it's worth trying to bring him back and it's definitely not worth the possible complications.

If he was capable of playing at a level higher than Jones, Webster or Outlaw, I have no doubt that he would be playing. My guess is his conditioning is not where it needs to be and he isn't playing anywhere near what he once was capable of. I have to assume that they are not playing him right now because all he can do at this point is drive his trade value down or hurt the team.

Is insurance still paying for him even though he's medically fit to play basketball now?

If that's the case, then I can totally understand why they aren't playing Miles just to see what he can do.

We're not getting anything for Miles. The best case scenario was that he would retire and just go away, now the best case scenario is we can add pieces like Jarret Jack and our draft pick to trade him for a contract with one year left on it.

I would also like to see miles play. The one nice thing about this situation is, the year we are going to make our big push Darius will have an EXP. deal. It's gives us an ace in the hole like Kwame's deal was for LA. Think about it, we cash in our free agent chips, see how things are working out then at mid season poach another peice off some poorly ran team looking to rebuild.
From Portland to Reno to Vegas to LA to SLC and on to HotLanta. Winning at life. Too Blessed to be Stressed

I can't believe an insurance company would pay his salary after he says he's able to play.

Has someone said he is medically fit to play? I haven't heard anyone say that.

Miles and his agent have been asking the Blazers to active him for games and he has been running full court/full contact practices for about a month now.

This I have heard.

There are 3 possibilities, Miles thinks he's ready but the team doesn't agree, or Miles is ready but isn't able to play anymore, or Miles is ready but Nate doesn't want to disrupt his team by playing him. All 3 possibilities seem equally likely.

I don't think insurance could be an issue. If Blazers were collecting insurance on Miles's salary, I doubt they still are.

You make an excellent point d-train. I really doubt Portland is able to still collect insurance on Miles anymore. I doubt that would lead to any rash decisions from Portland's end, but I could see them start putting more pressure on Miles to hang them up (if the team feels that's the realistic option).

Considering Paul Allens collective worth, I can't believe he won't pay him out. Surely the extra revenue from the crowds this year is enough to get rid of him.
