Mizzou

I think we are pretty much on the same page here. No, Ike is not a great player by any stretch of the imagination. But like you said, we are a 50 loss team. Why not get Ike some minutes, especially in games like Boston when they are without Perkins and Garnett? Diogu's height disadvantage would be minimized by going against Leon Powe. In a few of Ike's stints this year he has been very productive. I really think Owens and Diogu are getting the short end of the stick this year in terms of minutes. Hulk and Diener are benefiting.

Well, we all know why Owens doesn't play... b/c he's a point guard who can't run point! His handles are very poor. I'd like Andre if we were to pull off the JO-VC swap, b/c he could basically pull a BJ Armstrong and play D and hit 3s while VC and Danny handled the ball most of the time. But as a PG, heck, any guard, his handles have got to improve.

Ike on the other hand, doesn't play b/c Obie doesn't know how to use bigs who can score. Look at his history... He's never really had a good big in his NBA career. I don't blame him for JO's problems, but Mr. Fantastic runs a perimeter-oriented offense, and his stars have primarily been perimeter players. They may post every now and then, but their still 1s, 2s, and 3s.

I've asked for a while now that we try to ape Phoenix and use more high PNR w/ either Diener or Dunleavy. We have the shooters to space the floor, and Jeff and David have looked really good when all they have to do is catch the ball 5ft away from the rim and dunk it. We have all of these shooters and this overly complex offense, but in the end, it's really about spacing and execution. The Suns run about 3 plays, but they just do it extremely well. I know Diener + Dunleavy still don't equal Nash, but the PNR is one of the easiest plays to run, and they are able to make good/quick decisions as the trigger men. I'd also like to see how Shawne and Ike would do in that type of system.

It hasn't helped Ike that he's had like 5 coaches in his brief NBA career. Think about that for a moment. You how many defensive and offensive playbooks he's had to learn and drop, his head is probably still spinning. Give him some time. Foster and Murphy probably are better players at this time right now, but that doesn't mean Ike sucks. Foster and Murphy are both solid but unspectacular frontcourt players. I think the only reason Harrison plays over him is because he's a better shotblocker, and we miss that a lot without having JO protecting the rim.
