Stack wouldn't be eligible for the postseason anyway.

Why wouldn't he be eligible? Stack would join the Mavs after 30 days again. In that time period, there is some kind of restriction on March 1st but that one does not imply any specific restrictions on re-signing as far as I know.

Unless George changes his mind, I think this deal is in serious trouble. The whole Stackhouse thing is a mess and it's unlikely Dallas gets him back now. There's talk that KVH could be signed and traded but Cuban is apparently saying that option would cost too much money.

And then you have this from Fort Worth Star Telegram...

Cuban said he is not frustrated that the trade has been halted.

"I was never that excited about it in the first place," Cuban said. "There are pluses and minuses to every discussion that we had. If someone wants to hand me a bargain, I'm going to take it. But this is no bargain."

whoops. It's waived after march 1st that makes on ineligible for the playoffs, not signed after march 1st.

I'm having a rough thread :P

That's a story by Chris Broussard of espn.com about the Stackhouse mess and how the league may now not allow him to be a part of the trade or if he is, not allow him to re-sign in Dallas.

I understand Jason Kidd is the sexier name but isn't Miller playing better ball these days?? I'm not saying that the Mavs should give up anything close to what they were for Kidd but if you could get Miller for 1 pick, Harris and filler (Diop)... isn't that the better deal? They keep a pick, they keep Ager, they keep Stackhouse and they have a more manageable salary.

both the better deal (though dallas 1st are worth less than high 2nd rounders) and we do that deal in a heartbeat as well.
They say an analytics man doesn't have a heart, but I ran the numbers and nothing can be further from the truth - Sam Hinkie probably

We should take advantage of that mess if the Mavs are still looking for a trade. If we can somehow reach a deal with the Mavs that includes Harris and a first rounder, we would be in a VERY good shape for the forthcoming future. I am not sure though if they value Miller as much as we do.

Well, the 76ers have won 5 straight games against teams people would rank similar to us. They've won them very convicingly. And they've had very consistant play from Andre Miller. Hell, if this team weren't so young, it's conceviable that we win some close games and we would be at .500 or ABOVE.

Yeah, he's a pretty good PG. The worst 2 guard in the league is starting and he has them near the playoffs. Obv.

I definitely think the Sixers should try to get into this deal to make it work, but they need to land Harris if they do. Not optimistic that Miller has the glamour of Kidd, but he is a nice piece on top of which they can build the rest of the offer.

If Kidd's not available(and it's not looking like Cuban wants to overpay), then they'll jump on Miller. Elite PG play is hard to come by.

I could see the Sixers getting involved as a third team, but the Sixers wouldn't be getting Harris if the Nets are giving up Kidd.

I don't think the Mavs do this any more if the source is true. Jerry Stackhouse is a HUGE part of what they do. They could, of course use Keith Van Horn but do the Mavs wanna do that? Cuban has repeatedly said "no" but how about now?

That will depend on how badly Cuban wants Kidd. I'm sure the Nets are more than satisified with a Kidd for Harris swap.

The trade is on again, with Stackhouse and George replaced by Hassell and Van Horn, who will be signed to a $4 mill deal before being dealt. Pretty sweet deal for Van Horn.

Personally, I still think this is a bad trade for the Mavs. The Mavs did not lose the last two playoffs because of poor guard play. They lost because they don't have consistent low post scoring. It makes more sense for them to target Jermaine O'Neal or Zach Randolph.
Two years from being two years away.
