Simple, sensible trade with Portland

Post#1 » by evildallas » Fri Feb 15, 2008 7:36 pm

Rumor has it that Portland is shopping Jarrett Jack for future picks. It makes a lot of sense to offer our 2010 1st rounder for him (lottery-protected).

Consider that:
His contract fits without sending filler back to Portland meaning that it could be done while doing another trade that involves expiring deals.

He's under contract for next season for 2M so we would have a PG platoon for 2008-2009 allowing expenditures elsewhere to improve the team.

I don't know that POR would do that for a pick that far out and protected. Seems to me that they'd want a pick in the draft after next or 2010 unprotected. Maybe I'm off, but I'd wouldn't want to just give away Jack for something that could end up 3 years out.

If they were cool with it, I'd say hell yeah! It would mean options to still get someone like Mike Miller and even a big with some of the other options we have.

No one deals unprotected 1st rounders anymore. Just too risky. I could see making it top 8 protection to seal the deal, but I start with lottery.

The 2010 pick should make sense considering how loaded their roster is currently and that it will give them a possible cheap rotation player when Roy has started his extension. The rumor was they were shopping him for future picks, which to me implies not this upcoming draft.

I could be wrong about all this and maybe that is why we are mentioned as a potential suitor though.
