Stackhouse Can't Go Back To Dallas

Post#1 » by Live Free » Fri Feb 15, 2008 9:20 pm

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3247183

The chances of Jason Kidd wearing a Dallas Mavericks uniform this season are shrinking by the day.

First, Devean George refused to consent to the trade to New Jersey. Now, according to a league source, the league will not allow the Mavericks to bring back Jerry Stackhouse if he is traded and subsequently waived by the New Jersey Nets.

"The league has taken Stackhouse out of the deal," the source said. "They said, 'He can be in the trade, but he can't go back to Dallas after that."'

Even if the Kidd trade goes down, He can't go back.

That must suck for him, lesson learned.

Well done Stern. Glad to see you occasionally care about teams wiping their ass with the CBA.

Doesn't matter anyway. They'll convince George to go, include Hassell and a cheaply resigned KVH (which is equally ridiculous as the Stackhouse thing), and all will be well.

I actually thought Dallas was primed for a playoff run this season after learning their lesson about taking the regular season too seriously. Now, unless a trade goes down, I'm not sure they'll have the kind of chemistry they'll need to win more than one round. And they desperately need Stackhouse on their roster if they're giving up most of their depth for Kidd.

That sucks? That's great!

Cuban is said to not be willing to do the deal if he cannot re-sign Stackhouse, so this deal is believed to be dead now.

Instead of a young stud PG in Harris, expirings, and two first rounders, NJ will continue to age unless they can pawn Kidd off to another desperate Western Conference team.

I can't see NO, PHO, or SA wanting him. I'm not sure what LA could offer in terms of expirings as they've unloaded Brown. They weren't willing to trade Bynum last year and they sure as heck won't this year. I doubt Odom and filler would be enough for Thorn - and in any case it's a significant downgrade from the Mavs offer.

Why do people want this deal to go through? If you're a Raptors fan, you have to be happy with the continuing diminished returns of the NJ Nets currently and in the future.

pretty much the lamest thing I've ever heard...

It's Stern's own fault for making a stupid loop-hole rule, you can't just be like ummmmm I'm going to change that one...

fail.

How can they convince him to go... unless you think there's another *nudge, nudge - wink, wink* under the table agreement to be made that bypasses the CBA.

So is it just me or does the Keith Van Horn thing make Dell Curry one of our most valuable trading pieces?

S&T Dell Curry & 1st Round Pick to the Grizzlies for Mike Miller

Why? The Grizz get cap relief with Curry's expiring . . .

This could be dangerous ground.

edit: Crap just remember we traded Tabak to Boston . . . Dell Curry anyone?

Good to see the League steping in, and showing some balls

I smell a "Jerry Stackhouse" Rule coming soon.

You posted this thread on the Raptors board, so I don't see how you can possibly say 'that sucks.' If that's your opinion you should be posting this thread on the Dallas board.

This is great news for the Raptors.

The deal now gets significantly worse for Dallas, which means they'll probably be less willing to throw so many young assets the Nets way - and that's assuming they'd still be willing to give the Nets Harris for Kidd. Why would we want the Nets getting significantly younger and perhaps even better nearby in the future? If this cause Dallas to at the very least take out the draft picks they originally included, that alone would be good news for the Raptors.

We should not want the Nets to pile up on young assets.

At this rate, they will S&T dead players just to make deals work.

I would laugh my ass off if Cuban phones up KVH and KVH decides to hold out for more money.

I really don't know why ppl are applauding this move by the league. How can you not want Kidd to go to Dallas? Who wants to see him languish on that pathetic Nets team? I'm a b-ball fan, and Kidd in Dallas = more entertaining ball for me to watch. Stop being an ass Stern, make the trade happen already.

I think the Lakers could possibly send the Nets Lamar Odom along with Jordan Farmar and draft picks. Farmar is a downgrade from Devin but Lamar is a good piece to have, especially in the East when you have no bigs.

Depends how u see it. ... Yes many fans will see that New Jersey gets an excellent deal for Kidd, and it sets them up well for future in terms of value and assets. Me personally.. thats not the reason, I'm glad the league would step in cuz it can potential lead to worse forms of possible coersion between teams..... Something a lil deterence is what is needed.

Mavs = No longer going to beat Suns/Lakers/Spurs

Return to Toronto Raptors
