Mavs could seek Seattle's Thomas as backup center

If the Jason Kidd trade goes through the Dallas Mavericks might seek a dependable backup center to replace DeSagana Diop.
Seattle SuperSonics big man Kurt Thomas is a Dallas native, a former Maverick and is in the final year of his contract at $8 million. The Sonics could also send Dallas their remaining $3.5 million in trade exceptions. The only issue is whether the Mavericks have anyone the Sonics would want.
Sonics management is getting a lot of calls about Thomas and some of their swingmen but the organization doesn't feel inclined to make a trade unless it will help its long-term health.

If we could just close games with Luka, Kyrie, Green, Maxi, and Wood that'd be great...

Cuban going back to Nellie smallball? How ironic. So much for that 3 year experiment that went nowhere. Who is going to coach this new smallball team? Avery?
I still think we should forget Kidd and try to trade for Big Z in cleveland. LeBron is desperate and Z fills a bigger need for the mavs and would complement Dirk better.

I love how this is under NBA Rumors and yahoo has "could seek" as if this is actually being a heated discussion.
I don't believe it's going to be easy for any team to acquire Kurt Thomas. Seattle seems to like what he provides to the young locker room and they just need to wait for the right proposal to come knocking at their door. Not only that, but Johan Petro's game is starting to come around, and I'm just assuming but it most likely it has a great deal to do with Kurt.
Kurt Thomas to Dallas is has almost zero chance of happening.

If you belive my team's guru (Bulls - NBA Writer Sam Smith). he says that you guys are after Kenyon Martin or Nene Hilario.

i think the only way we could get one of those guys is to give up terry, but both of those guys actually play duncan decently, nene had a good playoff run last year.
edit: plus isnt sam smith supposed to be full of sh*t 95% of the time?

That is the only logical thing to do if it is available for the Mavs. I would think the Mavs have thought this whole thing through before making an offer for Kidd. If we don't make anymore moves or sign someone like PJ, the Kidd trade makes absolutely no sense because we create a bigger hole on this team than what we fill by getting Kidd.
I will be sick if we have Damp as our only true center on this team the rest of the season and I don't think Kurt Thomas is the answer.

like i said before, a kidd and k-mart reunion in Big D would be sweet, but k-mart just has a huge huge contract that there is no clear way to bring him to dallas... would most definitively take terry plus some more fillers... but denver wouldnt want terry...
i'd seriously look into ways to get a package together for sacramento for artest and brad miller... artest for his defense and miller to play center with dampier... miller just adds a new dimension to our center rotation as he has a different playing style with dampier... and since sacramento just gave bibby to the hawks, a fire sale would be possible.. who knows..
